As Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported, a new 16-game Thursday night TV package beginning in 2012 will be the source of new revenue for the NFL. It is assumed that all or part of the Thursday night packet may go out to bid to various networks. Currently 8 games have been carried on the NFL Network. In a competitive bidding situation the NFL could realize over $1 billion in TV rights for these games. Recently ESPN paid close to $2 billion for Monday Night Football rights through 2023. It is unclear whether NFL Network would retain any of the Thursday night games. Source: The Redzone
I've heard several times that the NFL Network would NOT carry any of these games. From what I heard, they would go to a regular network that would be able to show these so that everyone could see them and not just a certain amount of people that subscribed to NFL Network. Good news if it is true.
Not a fan of the Thursday night slot (Would much prefer Fridays), but more spread out NFL games is good news.
Fridays belong to high school games...... Maybe ABC should pick up the Thursday games.......I miss football on ABC. I grew up watching MNF on ABC.
The NFL has stated on several occasions that they will not put games on Fridays or Saturdays. They want high school football to be special...same with the college on Saturdays.
definitely wouldnt mind it at all..i go out drinking on thursday nights anyway, adding football to my week would make it go so much nicer
I think there's some kind of law too that actually states that an NFL game can't take place within x amount of miles of an HS game at the same time/night
Sunday- NFL Football Monday- NFL Football Tuesday- Wednesday- Maybe some NCAA Football Thursday- NFL Football Friday- NCAA Football Saturday- NCAA Football I call that a motha fuggin beauty!
