Befitting his legendary status, Derek Jeter hit a home run to become the first Yankee with 3,000 career hits. On a sunny, Saturday afternoon at a soldout Yankee Stadium, Jeter nailed a 3-2 curveball off Tampa Bay Rays starter David Price. The ball was recovered by a fan, 23-year-old Christian Lopez. Lopez said he would give Jeter the ball. Jeter is the 28th player in major league history with 3,000 hits. In the fifth, Jeter added a double, moving him past Roberto Clemente for 27th all-time. Jeter is the second player in MLB history to reach the 3,000 hit milestone with a homerun......joining Wade Boggs....who ironically reached the milestone while with the Tampa Bay organization. Congrats Derek......
So I just saw the video of Jeter taking his curtain call after 3000, and he waved at the pitcher to make sure he was cool with it. Just another one of the little things that make Jeter so classy and likeable.
being a yankee fan im happy for jetted. but im also happy its over. Now we don't need to be going into every game saying will he hit it. We can worry about winning
