NFL Teams On Verge Of Pushing Back Training Camps

Some training camps open at the end of next week, and the two sides have not yet gotten it done. Yes, they are closer than ever, with several key issues — particularly how to split more than $9 billion in revenues — just about settled but there is serious doubt that a disruption to the preseason can be avoided. While the regular season still appears safe, the situation isn’t as simple as shaking hands and going back to business as usual, even assuming owners and players patched everything up when face-to-face talks resume today — an unlikely scenario. Yet without a collective bargaining agreement in place soon, many teams will need to delay training camp. The New York Giants and Jets and Baltimore Ravens already have canceled out-of-town camps and will do all their preseason work at their home facilities, at a significant cost to the communities where they normally would have gone.

Would there be harm in pushing the season back a month? The Superbowl played maybe..at the end of February or even early March? Sure, it may compete with March Madness, but..hell, at least give them a little more time to prepare I guess? That, or just take away two preseason games..

They'll have to since its the NFL bright idea to wait an additional week on free agency, like coaches, gm's, etc. havent had their plans set up way in advance.

I'm all for it if the Super Bowl winds up being president's weekend. Not sure about the logistics of that though. What about all the preparation the city of Indianapolis has put in?

Yes, but wouldn't they rather have the preparations shifted..rather than not have the SB at all if there was no season? There's always bigger negatives than changes some plans, lol.

Pushing the start of the season back a month favors the cold weather teams doesn't it?

    :dontknow:

It does indeed do that. See, so someone gets screwed no matter what. This shouldn't even be a damn issue.

Not sure...I wouldn't be surprised if they shortened the season first...but who knows. It's the NFL.

I think this is your last resort if you want to have any training camp at all
