Major League Baseball is taking "very seriously" the allegations that Alex Rodriguez took part in some illegal, underground poker games, one of which reportedly turned violent, and he could face suspension if his participation in the games is confirmed."We take this very seriously and have been investigating this matter since the initial allegation," MLB said in a statement. "As part of the investigation, the commissioner's office will interview Mr. Rodriguez."An MLB executive, speaking to ESPNNewYork.com on condition of anonymity, indicated that Rodriguez could miss games if the investigation proves he was at the poker games."We're talking to people involved in the investigation and we're taking this very seriously," he said. "Because he had been warned about this before, I would say a possible suspension would be very much in play."

NFL = guns, dog fighting, and stabbings.

MLB = roids and playing cards.

    Give me a freaking break.

IMO, nothing is going to happen to him. Why? Because the Yankees Nation would have a fit if they did.

He's been warned by MLB several times about doing various things, and what does he do? He nods his head, and goes out and does what he wants to do anyway. Because he's A-Rod.

If anything, he'll get a 5 game suspension instead of the 50 game suspension he deserves.

    Why not?

He's been warned by MLB before about participating in underground gambling activities before but he's ignored them.

    Why not?

He doesn't deserve 50 games for playing cards that a little too much in my opinion. maybe a 10 game suspension and a fine

He was warned by MLB in 2005 about his gambling activities, but he ignored them.

If my boss warned me not to do something, and I continued to do it, I would be suspended, fined, or out and out fired. Why shouldn't the same thing happen to him?

    1. These poker games are illegal.

    2. Cocaine was used during these games. Last I heard, that was illegal.

    3. These were not your penny ante games. Large pots were common.

    4. Violence broke out during one of these games. Someone lost half a mil during a game and didn't want to pay up.

I'll grant you A-Rod was not present during the violence that broke out.

Still, I have no sympathy for him.

If MLB didn't suspend him for steroid use, they won't suspend him for this either. He's a sacred cow as far as MLB is concerned.
