Titans RB Chris Johnson Forfeits An Accured Season Towards Free Agency

Discussion in 'Tennessee Titans' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 9, 2011.

  1. Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson has not reported to training camp yet in protest of his contract which carries him through the next two seasons. There's no doubt he's underpaid, still playing off of his rookie deal, so his only leverage at this point is to hold out and pressure the Titans to give him a new deal. When he didn't show for training camp on Tuesday, Aug. 9, he officially forfeited an accrued season to free agency. Players can't become unrestricted free agents until their fourth season so, technically, CJ will be considered a third year player next year.

Just pay him, the Titans don't have anyone even close to as good as Johnson is...I don't blame him in the least for holding out he's so underpaid it's pathetic.

Yeah, he may be the best they have. No one close. But, nonetheless. I've made my opinion on holdouts twice before. I think it's lame.

I would like to agree that he is stupid for doing that but Chris Johnson is the face of the Tennessee Titans, if he is willing to hold out this much he is seriously not gonna play until he gets paid despite losing a year in free agency and getting fined. He is by far the best RB in the league and is well under-payed for being the best player at his position

30,000 a day for missing camp. What's that really going to equal to if he doesn't at least show up? He's going to end up losing money and end up back where he started.

this is the ONLY leverage a player has. like it or not (i for one do not 99% of the time) that's the way it is.

assuming the titans get a deal done he will not have to pay a penny of the fines. players never do.

I don't think it's a question of the Titans getting a deal done. They won't start the regular season without Johnson with a new contract. But still.

And they usually don't get long-term deals. They definitely get screwed.

I hope Peterson gets his extension before Johnson.

Show up, fake an injury. Not showing up makes people bitter and less likely to want to work out a deal.

I'd let his butt sit out. It's fine. Go out and grab someone quick or trade for someone. At this point however this team is SO hecked that he won't help a whole lot. Just let him sit out the year, pay you money in fines and get that number 1 draft pick and take a RB. Screw him. I HATE hold outs and think that you're making enough money as it is. I don't give a heck that he's "only" making half a million dollars. This dude is illiterate and a moron so heck him. Let him go work at Bob Evans or Roscos Chicken and Waffles or the Piggly Wiggly or whatever the heck is around his hometown. If he just reported and played out this year he would've gotten PAID next off season but hey, 2 more years in Tennessee is fine! Him and Carson can hang out with each other this winter!

I take Johnson over AP just because I still don't trust his fumbles, but that's just me

Any team that actually wants to keep the player won't charge the guy a dime. If they want CJ to play, they need to pay his butt. He's got like 5,500 yards in 3 seasons or something stupid silly like that.

They try to charge him $30k a day, I could see his crazy butt retire.
