Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun believes Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has to be on the phone Friday morning trying to make several deals. Rookie receiver Torrey Smith, the second round pick out of Maryland, didn't look comfortable running routes, especially going in and out of breaks or cuts. There was no acceleration, as if he was unsure of where he was running. Newsome, if the Ravens are serious about being contenders, has to find a legitimate No. 2 receiver, a backup quarterback and a proven offensive tackle or guard. Right guard Marshal Yanda is an option to play tackle, but that still leaves a hole at guard. Source: Baltimore Sun
In Torrey's defense, Ozzie should be trying to acquire 2 WRs, a QB, an entire offensive line, a TE, a FB, a RB, a defensive line, a set of LBs, a pair of corners and a pair of safeties based on last nights performance.
I don't think anyone should read too much into the first pre-season game, coming out of the lockout. Lol. Just saying. Wait until next week, if they bomb it ... then go for it. Granted, the Ravens are stupid for letting Heap go, to begin with.
The only ones that can really read into the teams first performance are the coaching staff and most likely after the second round of preseason games, you could see a bunch of additions, subtractions and trades ad teams begin to realize what they have and don't have. The price on a player such as Lee Evans could increase if teams don't think the WR position is what they thought it was...the tweaks will keep coming.
Yup. Right now it's reported Bills want a third round. But as interest increases, they'll increase the price. Can't blame the Bills for that, either. It's just funny that some of these teams cut players, and now may begin regretting some of them. I think Baltimore has always been on the cusp, but they never make the right moves to push them toward improving. The passing game always seems to be a weak point for them.
The offensive line ranks higher then anything else on the needs list, i think Oz will get one of the vet RT's still available, Birk is out till the regular season so we need a capable backup there. Vonta Leach didnt play yesterday, he's gonna play alot and open holes and help in pass pro, Ed twinkyson didnt play and he's ahead of Dennis Pitta who looked great last night, I expect alot of 2 TE's sets this year, Tandon also looked good. And as far as 86Ward's comments, we'll get to see exactly how much of that we need on 9/11 :icon_cheesygrin:, i dont put too much stock in the first preseason game post lockout with the vanilla calls we made on both sides, we will add a couple pieces once Ngata's deal is done and be just fine.
I think defensively, they are always strong. It's always the offense that lacks the talent needed to push harder. If they intend on competing with the Steelers and Patriots, they need offensive weapons. I like the Ravens. If I had to pick a team in the AFC, they would be the one I went with.
Bingo. And even then, two preseason games and a very short 'offseason' and he's ready to write him off already? Doubt it.
Nah...I don't put much stock in that game...actually none. First game after a lockout...they looked sloppy, but it's expected around the league. The Ravens will be the Ravens...don't get me wrong...I hope they continue that play...lol.
Necessary moves, until Ngata's extension is complete we have no cap space, none...im not jumping off a bridge after one game on offense, we will get a RT, Birk will be back at C, we will run the ball well and we have talented young players on offense. Do we need a WR? Will we get one? Idk, probably a higher probability that we do then we dont but i know these pass catchers are more athletic and talented then what we've had, even if it takes them a little while.
Leach did play, Tapp blew past him to take Rice down for a 5 yard loss. Definitely agree that the Oline needs help, although Eagle's Dline looked like a solid unit already. I would also worry about SS, Zbikowski looked like he was struggling.
