Giants Among Four Teams Interested In Acquiring Bills WR Lee Evans

Discussion in 'New York Giants' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 12, 2011.

  1. The Buffalo Bills recently announced that wide receiver Lee Evans is on the trade block, and already several teams are said to be interested. Included among those teams are the New York Giants…at least according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald. "Arizona has been mentioned as a trade partner. Baltimore, Jacksonville and the New York Giants, too," Salguero wrote. Given their initial interest in Plaxico Burress and their inability to re-sign Steve Smith, coupled with the fact that Ramses Barden remains on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, the Giants do seem like a likely candidate to add a wide receiver. In 109 career games, Evans has hauled in 377 passes for 5,934 yards and 43 touchdowns.

  2. Fourth or fifth round draft pick should get it done.......

We need to stock up on receivers to cover our weakness at TE this season and to soften the blow of losing Steve Smith.

Nicks and Manningham are locked in as the starters. Evans could step in as the No. 3 and have Jerrigan, Cruz and Hixon battle for the No. 4 receiver position. Jerrigan could focus more on kickoff returns this season.

With Barden still on the PUP list.....the loser(s) of the No. 4 WR position would still earn a roster spot as the No. 5 WR and No. 6 WR. Giants probably will carry 6 or 7 receivers this season. I think Cruz will make the final 53 this season. Barden's size and potential will earn him probably one more season.

If a Evans trade goes done.......Devin Thomas and/or Michael Clayton could face the chopping block.

  3. I also heard the Vikings may have interest as well......

  4. Evans also makes sense if the G-Men are going to run more spread formations this season.......

Baltimore is a strong possibility, IMO. If they are looking to add a WR after last night, I could see them giving up a 3rd for Evans.

No one is giving a 3 for Evans and Nix isn't going to give Evans up on the cheap...

Don't be too sure about that! Eagles said they were out of the Nnamdi and they surprised in i wouldn't be surprised if the panthers tried that same approach

Just earlier in this thread you said there was no way they'd get a 3rd.

4th rounder for a guy who has lost some speed and only put up about 600 yds last two seasons? Meh.

And don't use the QB argument. Johnson killed it last year.

Yeah...And they didn't. IMO a third would be too much for Evans.

However, from a Bills perspective a 4th isn't enough at all. It's an awful trade for the Bills. The reason Johnson did so well is that Evans was drawing double teams at times. What are the Bulls going to do to replace Evans? Roscoe Parrish, Buster Davis? Not a quarter of the player Evans was. A 4th for next season and a player that might be able to help them "now" would be better than what they got. They pretty much declared that they aren't going to try to win games this season. It's a dumb trade from the Bills vantage point.

If I'm the Bills, in asking for as much as I can get to help my team win. This doesn't do it. It hurts them more than helps.
