NFL Declares Terrelle Pryor Eligible For Supplemental Draft, Must Sit 5 Games

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Aug 18, 2011.

  1. The NFL declared former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor eligible for the supplemental draft Thursday but ruled that he will not be able to play in the first five games of the 2011 season after he signs a contract. The league announced Pryor was eligible in a memo sent to its 32 teams Thursday. The 2011 supplemental draft will take place Monday, Aug. 22. The NFL said that Pryor can play in preseason games after he is drafted and signs but he is not eligible to practice with his new team or play in a game until Week 6 of the season. Pryor will be allowed at his new team's training facility for meetings and to work with coaches during the time he is ineligible, however. "... Pryor made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL Draft. Those actions included failing to cooperate with the NCAA and hiring an agent in violation of NCAA rules, which resulted in Ohio State declaring him ineligible to continue playing college football. "Pryor then applied to enter the NFL after the regular draft. Pryor had accepted at the end of the 2010 college football season a suspension for the first five games of the 2011 season for violating NCAA rules. Pryor will be ineligible to practice prior to or play in the first five games of the NFL regular season after he signs."

LOL interesting ruling....imo they should let him practice even if he has to sit

  3. So his original punishment of sitting five games carries over to the NFL. Fair enough. Pryor should be very grateful he was allowed in to begin with.

  4. He should spend those five weeks watching film and learning under the QB's he'll be playing with. Hopefully....it's someone he can actually benefit from.

After he states that, he also says he is eligible. Makes a lot of sense. :sarcasm:

NFL really dropped the ball on this one. They state "... Pryor made decisions that undermine the integrity of the eligibility rules for the NFL Draft. Those actions included failing to cooperate with the NCAA and hiring an agent in violation of NCAA rules, which resulted in Ohio State declaring him ineligible to continue playing college football." What should have followed that statement was "Therefore, Terrell Pryor will be ineligible for the 2011 Supplemental Draft."

Fair or not, the NFL accuses him of harming the integrity of the rules and yet allows him entrance into their fraternity. Best if they would have said he's eligible and left it at that. Maybe this is the NFL's way of stating that they're a disciplinary arm of the NCAA and will punish past sins of players during their college days. Perfect timing in the wake of the University of Miami investigations.

Crap isn't "fair" at all. Pryor KNOWINGLY broke the rules. Then after being told that he's not eligible for the draft suddenly had a whole bunch of other violations that popped out and made him ineligible for the 2011 NCAA season. He SIGNED a contract saying he'd return to OSU after serving a 5 game suspension. Then all this other nonsense happened and these other violations occurred and blah blah. He wouldn't have played the first 5 games of the season as a rookie anyway so this is a bullcrap penalty. If you're going to do this than Vilma, Andre Johnson, Antrel Rolle, and all the other guys from the U as well as Reggie Bush needs to be suspended. I just think that Goodell is opening up a door that he shouldn't be opening right now.

  12. I understand where your coming from but what Vilma, Johnson, Rolle, plus all of the other former Miami football players did was almost 10 years ago. Goodell wasn't even the commissioner when they all entered the NFL.

It's just more in the cluster heck that is the NFL and Terrelle Pryor. From beginning to end it has been a joke.

Funny that he's not appealing it...seems like he would have the nerve to do so...

Let's examine this for a second.

    - As stated in this thread they release that statement then say, but heck them come on in son.
    - Then they contradict that statement by saying but, we are going to suspend you because you did so.
-Then then contradict that statement by saying, even though you're suspended you can still participate with your team, and coaches.
    - All of this contradicts eveything already said because it's not like he commited an actual crime. He broke an NCAA rule or 12,324. Yet, kids that get kicked out of school for breaking laws i.e. robbery or possession while in college are welcomed into the NFL with opened arms and NO SUSPENSION???

Did I get it right? Did I leave anything out?

    This.

Regardless, I'm more interested to see what team spends a draft pick on this douchebag.

In a few years, no one will remember TP's name except those that follow college football and see the aftermath of what happens with Ohio State. He will be nothing in the NFL.

I'm actually interested in how high a pick they spend on him...

My thought as well, but I would not be surprised to see someone buck up a 4th...don't think he's worth it. Actually, if the Steelers gave up a 4 for him, I actually wouldn't mind because their history with 4th round picks has been garbage...this would be no different...lol.

Thaddeus Gibson, Tony Hills, Ryan McBean, Willie Colon, Orien Harris, Daniel Sepulveda, Fred Gibson, Ivan Taylor, Larry Foote, Mathias Nkwenti...maybe a 30% success rate?
