If Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley appeared upset at the end of Friday night's 31-13 preseason loss to Baltimore, he was, letting coach John Harbaugh know about his displeasure with the Ravens' decision to call a pair of timeouts in the game's final minute. Haley, not one to mince words with an opposing head coach, apparently had some strong ones for Harbaugh when the two met at midfield, just moments after the Ravens scored with five seconds to play on a one-yard run by rookie running back Anthony Allen. Later, Harbaugh said he told Haley he wasn't trying to embarrass the Chiefs, just give valuable playing time to some of his less experienced players. "I want to apologize to the Chiefs if they feel like we were not doing the right thing at the end of the game," Harbaugh said, via the Carroll County Times. "The mindset was this is preseason. If this had been regular season, we would have been on a knee. The idea in that situation is to give these young guys who work hard and who are trying to make a football team to play the whole 60 minutes and give them a chance to show what they could do. I know that's debatable. I know there is a point of view both ways. I understand that. But I just felt like that was the right thing to do for our players, to give them a chance to play the game out and see what they could do." Source: NFL.com
Todd Haley is a giant SNITCH! I hope every team he plays from here on out tries to run up the score as much as possible. And is it written somewhere that you should not play hard for the entire 60 minutes in the football game? It's the preseason douchebag an teams are getting as much in as they can.
I don't think it's just that issue. Apparently, there was an agreement between the two to do the kickoffs short so both squads could work on kickoff coverage. That clearly didn't happen either. I found it interesting how the Ravens kept in their starters well into the 3rd quarter, while the Chiefs had their backups in mid 2nd. Not to mention, the Ravens 3rd stringers didn't come in until the final minute if that. Kind of odd how Harbaugh planned the game.
It's a preseason game, coming off a lockout. I think both head coaches are whiney snitches, but I can't fault Harbaugh here. It's not everyday that you get live action against another opponent...maybe he was running a two-minute drill. Maybe he was taking advantage of the short clock to run some situational stuff...hell, maybe he was even testing the coaching staff to see how they react with that time left. It's preseason...work out the kinks. Goes back to the Chiefs playing ball...if they don't want the Ravens to score, stop them...
