The Eagles have received “multiple†trade offers for Joselio Hanson, and it appears there’s a good chance the Eagles will trade the veteran cornerback by final cutdown day on Sept. 3, a league source familiar with the Eagles’ thinking said Friday. Hanson, one of only nine Eagles remaining from the 2006 team, has played in 82 games in five years with the Eagles, starting 15 but playing mainly in the slot, where the Eagles like his toughness, intelligence and tackling ability, but with the Eagles’ great depth at cornerback and Hanson’s price tag – he has three years left on a big contract extension he signed in February 2009 – Hanson appears expendable and would enable the Eagles to add to their already large selection of future draft picks. Hanson’s playing time and performance in 2010 triggered escalator clauses that bumped his 2011 base salary from $1.68 million to $1.88 million and his salary cap figure from $2.235 million to $2.435 million. He’s also signed for 2012 and 2013 at $2.7 million and $3.1 million. A league source said the Eagles have not asked Hanson to take a pay cut. Source: Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia
Hanson would be corner #2 on at least 5 teams in the league. Same with Samuel, I'd rather we not trade him. He gives us nice depth past the big three. I like Trevard Lindley and Curtis Marsh, but they aren't reliable quite yet.
yeah your right, the urgency of the eagles to bring in 2 probowl corners, one of which is so much better than their own pro bowl corner speaks volumes of hansons ability to be a #2 corner. wait, no it doesnt, nevermind
What teams would Hanson be a good #2...just curious and Samuel would be a #1, nevermind #2. You already have better than nice depth...lol.
:groan: Hanson played very well at nickel last season. Dmitri Patterson is the reason we freaking sucked in the secondary, hence his butt was sent packing and we traded for DRC. Roseman felt like being a ballsy snitch and stealing one of the best players in the game away from a division rival. Numbers say that if you can get a decent draft pick (4th, 5th round) for your #4 cornerback, you do it. You're more than welcome to your own opinion though.
im just saying they didnt think he could play #2, so they got DRC and now that DRC is #3 doesnt just automatically mean hanson can be a solid #2 corner someplace i think his stock right now is either a completely average and replaceable NB or a completely terrible #2. i really cant believe he holds any trade value at all tho
He started for asante a while ago vs the cardinals on thanksgiving did a good job on fitzgerald. Not saying he would be a good 2 but hes not a bad player could be a good 3 for depth somewhere.
I'll also tell you that I don't think he could be a #2. Maybe an average player an one who could do okay in the right scheme. But that doesn't mean that injuries and/or poor preseason play won't lead some teams to look at other options.
Raiders? Seahawks? Texans? Colts? Jags? 49ers? Panthers? Not saying they all need a #2, but some of them do and he could certainly be competing for the spot.
Depth. He's freaking depth! He could be a serviceable number 2 CB on some team and play the nickel. He's going to go for a 4th or 5th rounder if that and that's the end of it. He was the #2 DB behind one of the top 10 DB's in the NFL last year. We added the number 1 DB in football which bumped our 1 to 2 and then added DRC which bumped Hanson back even further. I'd keep him if I was the Eagles because I honestly and truthfully DOUBT that all 3 of our DB's have a full healthy season. That being said, he's a pro, knows a pro scheme and is a decent player. He'd be a great pick up for anyone. Especially if one of your DB's is Macho Harris. Just sayin.
It seems that Philly fans are the only ones that have watched much game of him. Perfectly content if the rest of the league shares the opinions of K Train. Be more than glad to keep him this year instead of getting a 4th or 5th.
Exactly! He's depth on a team and would be a great 3rd DB or even decent starting 2nd. He's not Aso or Asante or Revis or any of those guys but he's good. Watch him consistently for a season or 2 and you'll see he's an average to slightly above average DB but in no way is he amazing and most likely never will be. He'd be a shut down corner in the UFL!
ok lets drop this #2 starter in many teams because that's bullcrap but the guys is a serviceable guy to play in the slot but the guy does not suck and im sure he would improve a team nickle or maybe rotation as the 2nd CB i dont see why a team would not give up at least a 5th or 6th round pick specially with the high demand on CB due to injuries
I'd take Hanson as my No. 2 on the G-Men right now.......only because of injury. I can only hope entering a contract year helps Aaron Ross light it up.
I think he's a solid 3rd corner, enough so that a needy team would give up a 5th or a 6th rd pick for him.
