Eli Manning and the Giants couldn't overcome Washington Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman in their season opener. Grossman completed 21 of 34 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns as the Redskins beat the Giants, 28-14, at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. After a lengthy quarterback battle, Washington coach Mike Shanahan chose Grossman over John Beck to start the opener. Grossman hit Anthony Armstrong for an 18-yard completion that set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Tim Hightower in the first quarter. Grossman later found Armstrong for a 6-yard TD, and first-round draft pick Ryan Kerrigan swung the momentum in the second half by returning an interception for a touchdown. Source: Newark Star-Ledger
Never a doubt that Rex could play well if given the chance. I've seen people call Sexy Rexy the worst quarterback in the league, but I believe that guy plays in Minnesota now.
He was passing against a completely depleted secondary.... but he did well. He did well last year, too.
It was a weekly debate when Rex was here in Chicago. Will GOOD REX or BAD REX show up? In the case for the Redskins yesterday, GOOD REX showed up. Good Rex has to show up for more then just one game for his critics to totally shut up.
That's the thing with Rex...depending on which Rex you get is pretty much the direction the team is going to go. I mean he did get on a streak in Chicago and take a team to the Super Bowl...then again...he got on a streak and took the team into the tank.
It's things like that why Grossman will never be worth more then a 1 year deal and be a franchise QB.
If it wasn't for the way the Redskins D stepped up and put the Giants in check , Rex you better count your blessings. You still fumbled, luckly it didn't come back to bite you in the butt.
