ESPN Parts Ways With Hank Williams Jr

After comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler during an appearance on FOX News, ESPN has parted ways with country music singer Hank Williams, Jr. "We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue." The son of country music legend Hank Williams, a version of Williams' "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" has been used in the intro to Monday Night Football since 1991. An unabashed Republican, Williams made the Obama-Hitler comparison when expressing dissatisfaction with House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) playing golf with the President. A defiant Williams claims he quit. "After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision. By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It’s been a great run." It was only a matter of time before Williams, or one of his fans, evoked the 1st Amendment. Of course, what they will fail to comprehend is that while we are all guaranteed the right to speak freely, we're not free from consequences of that speech but if you make publicly compare the sitting President of the United States to Adolf Hitler, the private company that pays your salary is not required to continue to do so.

I don't care if he quit or they pulled it. This song has had a ridiculously long run and it was time for a change anyways.

Seems like speaking out against the POTUS is like career suicide. First, the Dixie Chicks, and now Hank.

So much for freedom of speech.

    I don't like Kanye and I don't like rap.

As for Green Day, where are they? I haven't heard much from them since American Idiot.

They made American Idiot into a broadway play, working on making it a movie, put out a follow up album and a live album. Won either a grammy or mtv award or both for best rock band if I remember correctly. Maybe even best rock album.

If I see one more idiot write Hank "compared" Osamma to Hitler I might just kill a couple of kittens and a few puppies.

Green Day is going strong. Pearl Jam constantly made fun of Bush. Still going strong. Tons of bands do it on a daily basis...

They're just trying to make their story more readable. It is goobered but what can ya do.

Exactly. It's not about what you say it's how you say it. Generally using Hitler in the same sentence as anything government related is going to get you in hot water.

The new opening, whenever they come up with one, HAS to be better than SNF, right? right?

As long as it's not Beiber, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, or the Black Eyed Peas I think it'll be alright. Underwood would be good.
