Some Fear Stanford QB Andrew Luck Will Dictate His Landing Spot In The Draft

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Oct 19, 2011.

  1. According to Albert Breer of NFL Network, "some in league circles" are concerned that Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and his father, Oliver Luck, will try to dictate where Andrew lands in 2012 by threatening to not play for certain teams. "I’ve heard that for the last two years," an unnamed scout told Breer. "There’s no question that it could be a Manning thing all over again." In 2004, former NFL quarterback Archie Manning made it clear that his son Eli didn’t want to play for the Chargers, who held the first pick in the draft. The Chargers took Manning and then traded him to the Giants, who had selected Philip Rivers with the fourth overall pick. Currently, the 0-6 Colts have the league's worst record and are in the best position to draft Luck next April. The Dolphins and Rams are both 0-5, and the latter would probably trade the pick anyway, but this is all assuming Luck declares for the 2012 draft.

Unless something terrible happens, Luck will enter the draft. He is not gonna risk another year in college.

I can see him not wanting to go to Miami. If I was in his position and I had the ability to choose between Indy and Miami, I would obviously do everything I could to land in Indy.

Indy is close to being a hot mess. And I think Luck is too competitive to sit for 4-5 years behind Manning.

It's not looking like Manning has another 4-5 years. 2-3 maybe.

And Indy has much better structure in place. I'd be more confident in their ability to build a team around me, as opposed to Miami.

And I can't believe you said hot mess. Gay.

Miami or Indy? Decisions, decisions. OR does a surprise team come into the mix?!?!?

Whoever gets the first overall pick is not going to think twice about selecting Luck unless they have already traded the pick for a ridiculous amount of crap.

Even if he refuses to play for the team that drafted him, he will be trade-able for far more value than that pick was worth.

Minnesota has looked bad enough to compete for it. If Ponder sucks the rest of the year I don't see why they wouldn't consider taking Luck.

I think this is such bullcrap. I'm still scarred from Bo Jackson doing this to my Bucs years ago. Who the heck do these kids think they are telling certain teams not to pick them because they will sit out. Thought it used to be a honor to be selected #1 overall, now it's more like a scarlet letter.

    Welcome to today's NFL. smh

It is a shame that a team has to wonder if the guy they "picked" will play for them or not.

I agree 100%. Crap like this is why I hate John Elway and Eli Manning so much. I'm glad there's a rookie salary cap too because unproven rookies shouldn't be able to get veteran money. If you're drafted play for the freaking team that drafted you and go wherever you want once you're a free agent.

What structure in Indy? The terrible offensive line? The crappy running backs? The aging WR/TE combo and the inconsistant replacements? The line that has two pass rushers over the age of 30 and nothing behind them? The line and backers that can't stop the run even if it meant their mothers would live? The over rated secondary that can't do anything unless Peyton puts the team ahead? This team is only for Manning. And I do see Manning having the urge to play 4 more years, and I can't see Luck sitting for more than a year. And don't be such a silly goose about the hot mess.

I can't believe that these kids think they can choose who they play for suck it up and play a GAME for a living.

if eli had that much pull, luck can basically do whatever he wants.

that being said i dont think either team would be a bad fit between those two...id prefer him going to miami though.

whoever ends up with #1 overall is either taking luck or selling the pick for a historically gigantic deal

It also pisses me off about college players wanting to chose. This isn't college. If you don't want to go to a bad team then don't play so well in college. You have to know you will play for a bad team coming out. Except if a good team has a meltdown and get the first pick overall.

I'm talking about ownership wise. I would feel a lot more confident in the Indy ownership's ability to build a winner than I would in the Miami ownership.

If I have the number one pick and Luck refuses to play for my team, I'm still choosing the bastard and like K-Train said, trading him for a historically gigantic deal. If Carson Palmer can get two #1's, just think what Luck can get...lol.
