The musical quarterbacks continued again this week in Houston as the Texans have signed veteran Jeff Garcia, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, who made the announcement while appearing on a Nashville radio station Tuesday afternoon. Garcia had worked out for the Texans in each of the past two weeks after injuries to Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart, but Houston first decided on Kellen Clemens as a third QB, then went with veteran Jake Delhomme last week after Leinart was put on injured reserve. Now, the Texans are making another move, waiving Clemens and adding another veteran backup in Garcia, who last played last year for the Omaha franchise in the UFL. Source: National Football Post
Is there really that much of a lack of backup talent that all these freaking dinosaurs are getting another shot? WOW.
Yes there is. don't know why that is. maybe because of the offenses being ran in the college ranks. For the most part, most quarterbacks aren't being groomed for success in the pros. Not many teams run the true pro style offense in college. The higher premium is being paid to developing receivers and backs in college. There are qbs now being drafted higher than they should have and then pressed into action because of the money involved and the coaches fearful of their jobs. Way back in the day you could draft a qb and groom him for a few years and then play him. The Pack did that with Rodgers but that was because he came cheap and they had Favre`. Hopefully with the new rookie cap they can start doing that again. It used to not be financially prudent to do such a thing but now you will be able to get your future qb and sit them and let them learn.
Not a lot of NFL experience out there at the QB position...even with the backups on teams right now... The young guys just aren't getting a true shot at the NFL...
