The Miami Marlins have agreed to a four-year deal worth $58 million with pitcher Mark Buehrle, sources told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark.Buehrle played last season for the Chicago White Sox under new Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen."I'm very happy to have this kid," Guillen told ESPNChicago.com. "He's one of my favorite players. We have what we want. Now how about three more (big free agents). Hey, you shoot for the moon just in case."Buehrle went 13-9 with a 3.59 ERA last season, his 12th with the White Sox."I think we're comfortable because I know what I'm going to get from him, and he knows what's going to come from us," Guillen said. "I think that helps. I talked to him a little while, what's going on, what we've got ... I don't want to say I'm a big part of that (Buehrle coming to Miami), but a little bit, because the Marlins know how much I love him, and I know how much he can help us." Source: ESPN
Heard they're counting on 30,000 fans per game this year to cover these contracts and stuff. I will be absolutely amazed if they get that for the entire season. Those fans will lose interest before the All Star break. Especially if the team doesn't perform well.
And how many years before then did 15,000 people "pack" the vet? It's eb and flow. But with the 4 year deal if he is a Marlin in 2014 I would be SHOCKED. The Marlins are on the fast track to winning a ring in a year or 2 and then fire sale-ing the team. CJ Wilson is also rumored to be joining this band of merry men. Talk that Prince might be following suit. It's the Loria way!
Not really suprised Buehrle signed with the Marlins if it wasn't going to be the White Sox or Cardinals. I'm gonna miss him on the South Side of Chicago.
