According to the NY Post, the Mets will have one less minor league affiliate next season as they seek to cut costs. The team announced Tuesday it plans to eliminate its rookie team in St. Lucie of the Gulf Coast League. The Mets will have Rookie teams in Kingsport, Tenn., and in the Dominican Republic. MLB has bailed them out twice now and lent them money. He made the decision to take over and force sale of the Expo's and most recently the Dodgers. Bud Selig and Fred Wilpon are buddies back to when Bug owned the Brewers. Rumor around Metsland also is that Fred Wilpon asked MLB to intervene with the deal he had made with David Einhorn who was going to invest 200 million into the team and if the Wilpons couldn't pay it back in 5 years Einhorn could buy a majority stock for a dollar. Wilpon is a giant c**k sucker yes, but MLB(Bud Selig) made the deal impossible for Einhorn and kept pushing it back until Einhorn backed out and Wilpon got his way. Bud needs to take over the team and then force the Wilpons to sell it. This is how Bud Selig is the worst commish in sports. Teams keep going bankrupt and he's just bailing them out and letting it happen.
i thought a big part of why that deal didn't workout was there were worries about the outcome on the possible connection to bernie medoff ? either way the expos were a horrible organization, in a horrible baseball city that never put any money into the team in an effort to keep them competitvie. it went on for decades. i guess if you want to link selig to the reasons your favorite team stinks thats fine but ultimately it all starts with the organization itself.
A) Fred WIlpon is a giant douchebag. I've never said something otherwise. He is the reason that this team sucks. When Doubleday sold his stock in the team he even said the man and his idiot son know NOTHING about running a baseball team. B) The deal fell apart because there was a provision in it that said if the Wilpon's didn't pay David Einhorn back within 3-5 years he could own 60% of the team at a MEGA minimal cost. And to why Bud Selig is a c**k sucker for his role in this. Selig SHOULD have said no to that and forced the Wilpons hand instead of backing them and allowing the deal to proceed or Wilpon to say no. In no way is this "I'm mad at Selig because the Mets suck" because I know the Mets suck because of Wilpon. They put Omar in charge of a team and just had him chase talent and dollar signs. They didn't build a good team, purged what little farm system they had and then over valued prospects (see Alex Escobar, Royce Ring, Phil Humber, Carlos Gomez, Fernando Martinez, etc) and didn't trade when their value was highest. My point is that the Mets suck because their ownership is goobered. Sandy Alderson is the best thing to happen to this team and he's handcuffed because ownership won't give him any money to work with. He didn't make an offer to Reyes because Wilpon said that he couldn't give him more than 11 million a year. Major League Baseball needs to step in and either run this team or just force sale like it did in LA. They've given them 3 loans now, know that they're losing multi millions each year and they allow a team in the biggest market in baseball to not compete because of it. Luckily it looks like Selig will retire after this year but odds are strong they'll put just as big a douche in place. That's why I hate Bud Selig. Not because I blame him for the Mets sucking. He's just a lame duck commish.
