49ers kicker David Akers has set an NFL single-season record with 41 field goals made. Akers connected from 44 yards out to extend the 49ers' lead over the Seattle Seahawks to 16-10 with 12:42 to play in the fourth quarter. It was Akers' third successful field goal of the game after missing his first attempt. The 37-year-old Akers, who is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons, had never had more than 33 field goals during his 12 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.

well, the niners certainly have the field goal mastered. they are one of the better offensive teams between the 20's but have trouble finishing the job.

their defense is good enough to make up for these lost points but they could face some high powered offenses in the playoffs (new orleans, green bay, detroit). what happens then?

This record is one that no team wants to have.

Like there was no question mark when the 2007 Patriots beat the Giants in Week 17.

    Oh wait...

Agreed, I'd love more TDs but the formula is working with this defense.

I dunno....not exactly the picture of offensive efficiency when a kicker is your most dangerous offensive weapon. Settlign for too many FG's is this team's Achilles heel.

Did he break a Niners scoring record as well?
