Penn State has not given up hope it can lure Mike Munchak for its coaching vacancy, a persistence grounded in the belief the Titans coach may listen to the Nittany Lions after all, sources said Saturday. Munchak has repeatedly stated he would remain at Tennessee, but a source close to him said Munchak is struggling with the concept that he can "fix and make right" his alma mater. "He loves his school and his heart is torn," the source said Saturday. "He really fits what they want and need to a tee." The source said Munchak's situation should be resolved within a week. The Titans end their season Sunday against the Texans in Houston. Two sources said Saturday New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien is a candidate if Munchak does not reconsider. Here's an interesting scenario. Mike Munchak quits the Titans. Jeff Fisher is hired by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Brian Billick becomes the new HC of the Tennessee Titans. Now that would make for quite a feud in the division. It was Jeff Fisher who got the Titans to the Super Bowl by beating the heavily favored Jaguars. The next year, the Titans were heavily favored and Brian Billick's Baltimore Ravens beat the Titans to win the Super Bowl.
Not going to happen! I could buy that if Jason Garrett is fired by the Cowboys, he would be hired by the Titans.
Munchack back to his alma mater? That guy wouldn't even be able to fart without first consulting with an attorney for awhile. Just because it's not in the news anymore, the tip of the iceberg is yet to be reached. Coughlin back to the Jags if they lose today.
I don't think it will either and I don't see the Titans taking Garrett if he's let go in Dallas. Munchak would be a nice fit in Happy Valley. However, I feel like early on in this search process, PSU was looking for the "next JoePa." It doesn't exist. This school has had the same head coach for the last 46 years? That's never going to happen again. The stability at head coach is going to now be like every other college in the country...I think they need to realize this and go forward looking to improve the team now and I think Munchak could start that "repair process."
You're right! I don't think the Titans would hire Garrett if he's let go by Dallas. I do think that if Munchak quits, the Titans may take a look at Brian Billick. Not sure if they would hire him, but can you imagine the rivalry if Jeff Fisher got a job with the Colts or the Jaguars?
Billick? Dear god NO! That would just be weird to have Billick coaching the Titans, especially after the bitter rivalry back in the day.
