The man who botched the 32-yarder that would've tied up the AFC title game in the final moments has taken responsibility for the miss, but Ravens K Billy Cundiff goes on to explain that an error on the stadium scoreboard rushed him into action. Cundiff tells Stefan Fatsis, via Deadspin, that he typically does not watch the action on the field, preferring to monitor the scoreboard, and that the Gillette Stadium scoreboard read third down when it was really fourth. The scoreboard read first and second downs on second and third downs, a discrepancy which Ravens P.R. director Kevin Byrne confirmed to Fatsis after team officials watched video of the game. So Cundiff had to sprint onto the field to avoid a delay of game, and shanked it wide left to send the Patriots to Super Bowl XLVI. Source: USAToday
Williams owned up to it. Don't be a freaking snitch and blame someone else. Say you shanked it. End of story.
Don't blame the scoreboard, you hecked up. Doesn't matter what the scoreboard says your job is to make a kick thats why you were out there.
really? I can sort of understand if the scoreboard made a mistake in playclock time on it was running faster then the time they had to hike the ball but cause it said 3rd down and not 4th down? wtf I don't care what it says, 1st down 2nd down or not, even if the downs was right and it was 3rd down, why would you rush it? if your coach tells you to go out and kick that Field Goal, it doesn't matter if it really is 1st 2nd or 4th down you go out and kick it
In times like this, you take it on the chin, accept responsibility, man up and move on. Trying to place blame elsewhere just makes you sound like a whining, ball-less snitch as well as a choke artist.
