The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed brand new head coach Greg Schiano to a five-year deal worth slightly more than $15 million, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. While that represents a small raise from his $2.3 million per year deal at Rutgers, it doesn't come close to the $6 million per year reportedly offered to Chip Kelly. While this isn't a bottom-dwelling head coaching deal, it's not exactly rich, either. That's to be expected when hiring someone with as low a profile as Schiano has. Spending a relatively low amount on a head coach could give the Bucs a chance to spend big on coordinators and other assistant coaches, if they're so inclined. Source: SBNation
This whole thing COMPLETELY and totally baffles me. He barely did good in an awful college conference but was decent at recruiting. That being said, I don't think it'll translate that well to the NFL. Minus that one 11-2 season he lost at least 4 games every year.
not any beasts. (except for maybe Mohamed Sanu who hasn't come out yet). However, the amount of NFL players who are even on a roster has gone up DRAMATICALLY since he became HC.
haha. $15 mill for a bad hire? holy crap. well, maybe we will all be proven wrong and he will be a great NFL head coach ...............
I don't think you guys realize how truly terrible Rutgers was. Schiano is a good coach. Rutgers recently has been held back because of their O. However, I'm not sure how good of an NFL coach he will be. But I do know he is a good college coach.
being a good college coach has no bearing on how well they will do in the nfl ............. they are 2 completely different games ............... however, history DOES tell us that you increase the odds of your NFL head coach being successful if he has extensive experience as a coach and/or player in the NFL, which Schiano does not. I will be VERY surprised if Schiano makes it in this league ............. I see him running back to the college game within a few years i.e. Saban/Petrino
The Hood DID say that he thought Schiano would be a good NFL head coach so who knows. But the hood sucked in his first go around as well. So who really knows. As far as Rutgers talent some quality players have come from there. You know the 2 best. Mike McMahon and LJ Smith! Both GREAT talents. *vomits everywhere*
Don't forget about Kenny Britt as well. I'm telling you guys go look and see how many Rutgers players are in the league compared to the past.
