Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has apparently called around the league to gather information on former Chiefs head coach Todd Haley. Jason LaCanfora tweeted: "Mike Tomlin has been making calls gathering info on Todd Haley. Could emerge as OC candidate with Steelers." Haley was in charge of the Chiefs for the past two and a half seasons, before he was fired by Scott Pioli in the second half of the 2011 season and replaced by Romeo Crennel. Before Kansas City, he was the Offensive Coordinator in Arizona under former Steelers' coordinator Ken Whisenhunt. The Cardinals were among the top five teams in the league in scoring during the 2008 season, when they met the Steelers in the Super Bowl. Source: SBNation.com
Wouldn't mind this at all. I think he gets a bad rap for "having attitude" and confrontation with players.
haley can do wonders with receivers ............ if this happens, look for the steelers to become more of a passing/receiver-oriented offense ......... fewer carries for their backs, fewer targets to the TE's, and more targets to the WR's.
disagree...the steelers are a passing team anyway but while hes a hell of a WR coach he was definitely going into last season with not only focus on bowe/breason/baldwin but he was certainly counting on jamaal charles to provide a running game and tony moeaki to continue to contribute in the passing game after a good rookie year. id say they would be much more balanced under haley than they were arians. Haley will run with a FB and not throw a million bombs/screens per game. charles, moeki, berry all getting hurt threw a wrench in his plans, then cassell (king of painfully average QBs) went down he had nothing to work with. really think this would be a great hiring at OC
haley wasn't the o-coordinator in 2010 when charles and moeaki had huge years ............... trust me, haley is a wide receiver guy and your wide receivers' overall targets would increase quite a bit .......... probably 10-20% ............. in addition, Ben is only connecting with your 2 main receivers, Wallace and Brown, at about a 59% rate ................ that catch rate would increase dramatically ............... they should really be at 65% or more ........... you will see wallace and brown (or any additions) consistently hauling in 100 receptions a year .............. wide receivers are haley's specialties and he would make wallace and brown (and any new wide receivers) better and a bigger part of the offense .................
oh i agree about him being a WR guy, but the difference between him and arians is he uses WRs in more productive ways. Arians was useless at maximizing their ability even though he loved to just chuck the ball around. wallace, brown, sanders, and cothery could all have a big year i agree
yep, you would see your receivers take a huge step forward in their skill sets .............. if you've ever heard larry fitzgerald and anquan boldin talk about the coaching they got from haley, they give most of the credit to their games being elevated so much to haley ...............
That and the 3rd and long draw. The main problem with Haley is he's a perfectionist. Sometimes that isn't bad, but I just get the feeling that he outsmarts himself a lot. He'll have more talent to work with at QB in Pittsburgh, so it should work out.
