This could all be moot if the Texans try to wrap up their superstar defender but it would not stun Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly one bit if the Patriots make a play for DE Mario Williams. Bill Belichick is nothing if not opportunistic, and he knows that having one of the finest defensive talents potentially come free like this is a once-a-decade kind of thing he can't afford to pass up. Letting Richard Seymour go was a rare Belichick mistake, and sources have said that the coach admits he hasn't been able to adequately replace his former D-lineman. Reports have surfaced that the Texans seriously are torn and are starting to accept the idea that they might have to let Williams walk. Belichick can build a defense around Williams, and everyone who knows him knows he's a team-first winner, as well as a rare, game-changing talent. Source: Pro Football Weekly
He would take that D up a notch, especially giving Belichick of all people such an elite and versatile player
the pats need talent everywhere on defense. a better front 7 will make the pats secondary better ............ you of all people should know that. the giants secondary isn't fantastic. they simply have the luxury of rarely having to blitz so there are always 7 or more guys in coverage to help their secondary. having a stud d-line makes a d-coordinators job very simple and makes a secondary look better than they are.
Their pass rush was every inch as pathetic as their secondary. Mario Williams would most likely solve that however.
