Owner Jim Irsay is open to Peyton Manning remaining with the Indianapolis Colts and finishing his NFL career but the ultimate decision will rest with Manning according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. “We can make it work if he wants to be here,’’ Irsay said today. “We’d be excited to have him back and finish his career with us. “I want him to be able to make the choice. We would love to have him back here if he can get healthy and we can look at doing a contract that reflects the uncertainty of the . . . healing process with the regeneration of the nerve.’’ Irsay expects to meet with Manning within the next seven days to discuss Manning’s career with the Colts. Manning is due a $28 million option bonus by March 8 that activates the final four years of the five-year, $90 million contract he signed in July. “There’s no question it can be worked out if he wants to be here,’’ said Irsay, who has concerns over Manning’s long-term health. “It can work if he wants to come back and can get back to being the old Peyton.’’

Irsay wants to dump Manning so bad even I can feel it...he wants the old Manning back something that may not be possible.

Was this necessary Irsay?, you couldnt just remain quiet on the Manning front and have a private meeting to hammer this out. He's essentially put Peyton on the spot

chris mortensen was on k.c. radio this morning and said that he thinks the 3 leading teams for Peyton's services were the redskins, dolphins, and ............. the colts. he said that he doesn't think peyton staying with the colts is out of the question, especially if he's healthy.

personally, i still think irsay is wanting to start completely over.

He just wants Peyton to seem like the bad guy when he inevitably leaves its all smoke and mirrors so he doesn't look like the rod. Horrible move.

Manning's days are numbered as a Colt. Book it.

if you bring Peyton back it wont be the old Peyton. so bringing him back is a big risk in my oppinnion I would trade him and get something for him

I think you mean the young Peyton. Nobody is going to trade for that contract with that injury, either.

Peyton isn't staying in Indy, this has gotten too ugly and personal. Irsay just wants to lessen the blow with the local fans by making Peyton look like the bad guy

some of you are not old enough to remember the joe montana situation in san fran but it's somewhat similar.

montana was beaten down, nearing the end of his career, had suffered some major injuries, and the niners wanted to move on for the future and have steve young lead the team.

they offered to keep joe on the roster but told him he would be the back-up to Young. Obviously, Joe refused and demanded a trade.

This situation may play out very similar but it will likely end with a release instead of a trade because of the huge roster bonus payment which is due.
