The Houston Texans have released backup quarterback Matt Leinart, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Signed to a two-year, $5.5 million contract last July, Leinart was the No. 2 quarterback behind Matt Schaub to start the 2011 season. The 28-year-old replaced and injured Schaub in the starting lineup in November and completed 10-of-13 pass attempts for 57 yards and a touchdown before his season ended with a broken collarbone. 2011 fifth-round pick T.J. Yates ably replaced Leinart in the starting lineup and led the Texans to a win in the first playoff game in franchise history and earning an opportunity to be the No. 2 quarterback entering the 2012 season.
