The Denver Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning have agreed on a five-year, $96 million contract, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. How the contract was structured and how much of it is fully guaranteed is unknown, but the $19.2 million average per year would make Manning the highest-paid player in NFL history. The Broncos have called a 1pm local time press conference to announce the contract. Last August, Manning signed a five-year, $90 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts that included $26.4 million in Year One and $70.2 million over the first three seasons. Manning missed the 2011 season after undergoing multiple procedures on his neck, including a single-level anterior fusion surgery in September, and was released before a $28 million option bonus came due before the start of the 2012 league year. Damn 19.2 mils seem like a lot of money for a QB that had that many neck surgeries and has not taken a single hit yet. But that's just my opinion
Here's something to think about. Does anyone here remember Cliff Harris, who played S for the Cowboys from 1970-1979? I know the Cowboys fans here do. Harris suffers from the same injuries that Manning has. Harris can no longer turn his head.
Instead of Te-bowing this year everyone will be doing the Mann-ing. Mann-ing is when you lay on the ground and twitch after you get leveled by a big mother hecker and your surgically repaired neck snaps.
When you're lying in a bed not able to feel most of your body you can count all the way to 96 million plus beyond. You can stare at the only bling on your finger as well because this team isn't going to win CRAP. The Niners were his only shot at a ring, sorry Bronco's fans. The AFC still goes through Foxboro.
this contract, in my opinion, helps with the Brees' contract. Manning got a 5 year 96 million. So give Brees a 5 year 100 million contract. I don't see why Manning can't play for another 4 or 5 years. They said that the surgery strengthened his neck.
we're getting the specifics of this contract ........ $18 mill guaranteed for 2012 $20 mill for 2013 and 2014 become guaranteed if the broncos keep him on the roster in march of 2013 with one exception..... the broncos are not on the hook for the $20 mill in 2014 if peyton gets another neck injury in 2013. so, really, it's only an $18 million guaranteed contract and the $58 mill over the first 3 years isn't all guaranteed. and then the broncos have club options for 2015 and 2016 once again. It's actually not as bad of a deal for the broncos as many thought. they have a lot of options out.
if they are trying to win now it is a good move. If his neck gets injured again they are not on the hook for the contract. Just that year.
