Where are the following young QB's headed? Will they keep their starter roles or are some or all of them destined to hold clipboards for most of their NFL careers? So, the question becomes, which of these players do you see becoming lifetime back-up players in this league sometime in the next few years, taking a similar career path to David Carr, Vince Young, and Kyle Boller, where they got a lot of opportunities to start early in their career but then were relegated to a back-up role due to a failure to improve and raise their games.
I'd speculate that Gabbert is one of those guys who won't even get a shot at being backup. I'm expecting a flame out of the league once he's outta Jax.
As much as I hate to say it because i'm a huge fan of his, i'm not convinced colt McCoy had what it takes to be a good starter.
yep, i thought mccoy was going to progress more than he has........ of course, i don't know how much of it is actually his fault or if it's just the browns organization failing to develop yet another qb. eh, laugh if you want but the guy has not been good in 2 of his 3 seasons. i like josh's potential too but it appears that if things are not going perfectly around him, he really struggles. was he a 1-year wonder? another bad year or 2, and I could easily see him standing on the sideline somewhere.
Gabbert and Ponder. I think McCoy and Freeman are going to be fine. Especially if McCoy gets some targets he can actually trust.
Freeman has had 3 different OC's. How the hell is he supposed to get comfortable in 3 different systems?
i wish you hadn't given this as your main counter-point because this is typically just something fans say when their qb sucks and they've run out of excuses and i want to believe that freeman is going to improve. and, if you're going to run with this excuse, you have to excuse 3 of the 4 qb's on this list. ponder is the only qb that has had any stability early in his career. i believe mccoy is going on his 3rd o.c. already and gabbert already has a new o.c. in his 2nd year.
McCoy for me. I believe he's leveled off and what you see is what you'll get from him. Serviceable backup at best IMO.
Ponder. Epic reach and was thought to be very pro ready. In todays EZPass NFL, if you suck as a rookie, your probably always gonna suck Sent by HTC Vivid using Tapatalk
Ponder and McCoy will fall into backup roles by season's end, Gabbert will flame out of Jacksonville after 2013
I voted Blaine. He plays scared. If you watch him when a defensive player breaks free he curls up or hurries and throws away the ball not to get hit. Andy made a great point. I doubt he will even be a backup somewhere whenever he is released from Jax. There was a talking head that said he played like that in college. Scared of the rush.
The ONLY saving grace for Blaine is he played hurt all year. I'll give him a mulligan for year one, but he better make some rapid improvement this year.
