North Alabama cornerback Janoris Jenkins says teams that skip over him will regret it according to Aaron Wilson of Profootball.scout.com. "Certain teams told me they thought I would be a thuggish kid with baggy jeans or one of those wild guys," Jenkins said. "When they meet me, they see I'm not a bad kid. I just made some mistakes and everybody makes mistakes. The NFL is going to get a good person. Whoever gets me will get a competitor, somebody who works hard, a team player and a shutdown cornerback. Whoever skips over me, they're going to regret it now and later." Jenkins added, "'I wasn't smoking marijuana at North Alabama. If anybody wants to know, they can give my coaches a call. I wasn't partying. They've been saying a lot of things about me that aren't true withuot getting my side of the story. It's been a humbling experience. I want to know why all of a sudden this is out there about me. Why didn't it come out after the combine when I was straightforward with the scouts? The timing is very interesting to me." Jenkins has visited the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts and the St. Louis Rams.

    i dont disagree with him.

Hes magical in coverage, i think he ends up a brown and teams back up with haden (who he was clearly better than when haden went top 10)

Hes not a great tackler but hes a willing one, you can stick him on a WRs hip and that be that. He was so bored at N Bama having probably 10 balls thrown at him all year.

Everyone wants to call him the enxt pacman jones, i mean he smokes weed but im not sure thats a direct path to guns, murder, harder drugs, jail, and other thug crap.

I would say hes got the same character concerns as santonio holmes, even less even with holmes domestic "incidents" but he smokes weed and has babies...big deal, probably the second best corner in the draft and with his character concerns a fringe first or an amazing second round pick

well, i don't think people necessarily think he's going to go kill a guy. i think the concern people have with young guys like this is:

    1) drug test failures=suspensions
    2) lack of maturity=not a great leader
    3) smoking weed and knocking women up=lack of commitment to become 'the best' at his craft

guys like this usually end up just floating around the league, never quite living up to their potential because the commitment just isn't there...... (see Ricky Williams, randy moss, shaun ellis, leroy hill, matt jones.............. shall i continue?)

No doubt he's a shut down CB, he's gonna have to convince a team to look past his past. if I were to draft him for my team he would start with 0-2 count. Screw up once and you're gone.

and that's exactly why most teams won't take a chance on someone like this. they only get one free 1st rd pick each year from the league ........ why piss it away on someone who doesn't seem to give a crap?

most would much rather take a less talented guy who is going to work his butt off to get better.

weed doesnt necessarily lead to more serious things, actually name me a pot head that takes anything seriously

randy moss is a hall of famer for christ sake lol, ricky williams loved to be high by he was the smart hippie type. Matt jones was a coke head

He disputed the claims about him smoking at N Bama, any time something like this comes out around this time of year you can thank a team that wants to draft him for putting it out there.

if you watch him play, youre foolish to not think top 10 pick....he comes with some risk, but as far as anyone knows hes clean and lets be honest if the league took the hard road on weed they would have had to shut it down

honestly i dont think smoking shows a lack of commitment, other than getting caught (which really seemed to be his problem) he comes to play on sunday. I guess theres a chance the pay day could worsen him, but thats not always the case.....medium risk player (like holmes) insanely high reward

Capt. you really don't think he's going in the 1st rd do you?

Got "caught" 4 times a UF, that's a character issue. However he has stopped hanging out with thugs and has straightened his life out. So....

Jenkins will be a first rd pick and could be 2nd CB taken if teams are willing to chance on players with character issues.

BBF, you have him going over Bama CB Dre Kirkpatrick?

i have him ranked about a mile ahead of dre as a CB, but i have him going after him. sounds about right to me

you actually think moss and ricky were committed to their craft and lived up to their full potential? hell, didn't they both walk away from the game in the middle of their careers?

i don't think you're understanding what i'm saying. Most teams DON'T CARE how naturally athletically gifted he is. EVERY player at this level is athletically gifted.

What separates the great ones from the guys that never improve after college is their commitment/work ethic/desire to improve and typically guys like this don't really give a crap to be the best at their job.

if you seriously are going to argue that a professional athlete risking millions upon millions of potential dollars in income earnings in order to simply get high doesn't show a lack of commitment/maturity/decision making skills, then this conversation is pointless because i can't reason with that argument. shame on you ktrain. :ranting: i expect better out of you in your posts.

I don't know . I have 4 CBs going in 1st round Claiborne obviously 1st and then after that Kirkpatrick, Gilmore and Jenkins is a toss up.

Good point. Could just be a coin flip for some teams. I just don't see a team taking a 1st rd risk on JJ.

i just think its a bit overblown. We have zero reason to think he hasnt been clean since he transfered. Im saying he goes to the browns and makes magic with haden again.

i get that it shows maturity issues, im not disputing that. what im arguing is how i dont think hes the next pacman jones (no here has said it but it seems to be the consensus) they are just different types of people imo.

also that being said....i understand hes risky his millions, but hes still playing a kids game for a career. sometimes this is taken too seriously, we arent voting him into office for president we are asking him to run around and chase WRs. like i said though we dont have reason to believe hes still smoking or hasnt grown up. His combine interviews he got flustered a bit but they can be tough questions and athletes can be dumbasses.

still a first round pick, probably better than claiborne to be honest, if he falls to the second some team is getting a steal....well worth that risk.

again santonio holmes...wake and bake tweets, domestic violence, 3-4 kids (maybe more now who knows), superbowl MVP, and $50 million deal with the jets. not an upstanding guy by any means, but the steelers got enough return on investment before they shipped him out to the catastrophe in new jersey we call the jets

we agree that smoking weed doesn't make him the next pacman............ although i'm going to reserve judgement on jenkins in general because from what i recall, there WERE some acts of violence during his time at Florida in addition to the weed arrests.

and we are in agreement that he's not running for President of the United States, but from a teams' perspective, they ARE considering using their only 1st rd pick (for most teams) and paying him millions of dollars. therefore, commitment/decision making/desire WILL play a part in their decision. it's a business and a company (in any industry) is always going to hire the guy that puts his craft/job on a higher priority list than the other guy............. and this is why jenkins will not get drafted in the top 10, even though his football/athletic skills put him there......... his lack of desire/commitment make him a low first or high 2nd guy.

he'll play in the league for a while i'm sure. he just won't really get any better from where he is right now and his play on the field will diminish prematurely because the effort just won't be there (most likely)

He's insanely talented. Giants don't need another guy shooting themselves in their leg.

    LOL!!!

I think a team will take a chance on him in the 1st round. I could see Seattle or even the Ravens taking him. (put this kid in a room with Ray Lewis and see if he doesn't come out a changed man) lulz

i really dont know why everyone says this, because ray lewis is emotional on the field doesnt mean hes gonna touch the lives of americas youth.

plus hes old and dying, janoris and jimmy smith (<--actual thug haha) will be blazing up soon enough lol

it seems so clear that hes gonna be in the AFC north though, just with either the browns or bengals (both of whom have 2 first round picks)
