New Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano wasted no time establishing who was boss at the team's first voluntary workouts last week. "Nobody's exempt. That means it's going to be a whole organizational turnaround. The whole building is under new rules, and we all have to follow them if we're going to get back where we want to be." According to the newspaper, players will be held accountable for things as minor as not having their toes on the yard line during a pre-practice drill. Last season, the Bucs started off with a promising 4-2 record, but they lost their last 10 games of the season, as Raheem Morris was terminated after the season ended. Schiano hopes to improve the Bucs through discipline and so far the team's veteran leadership appears to be buying in. "A team that has as many young guys as we have definitely needs that because it's hard to police yourself," said cornerback Ronde Barber, who is entering his 16th season. "And there aren't enough veteran guys around here to do it. So this is what we need." At the voluntary workout, players arrived at the team facility at 7 a.m. with some of them not leaving until after 9 p.m. "Have you ever seen anything like this?" said guard Carl Nicks, who joined Tampa Bay as a free agent on a five-year $47.5 million contract. "We joked about it in the locker room and said it's kind of like a college atmosphere. But at the same time, if we keep at it at this pace, we'll be the best-conditioned team in the league. It's kind of grueling right now, but it's for a bigger purpose."

went from a 'players' coach to a disciplinarian .......... pretty standard stuff. i still think the big boy league is going to eat shiano alive, but we'll see how it plays out.

1 year. Schiano loses 10 games next year, watch. Was a bad coach in an awful conference. He has the Saints AND the Falcons to contend with. Yeah, good luck.

How in the sam hell can you say that? He turned RU into a contender during his tenure there. I'll give the weak conference, but he recruited well and his players loved him.

I'm not sold on him taking the Bucs to the playoffs this year but damn...did he run over your dog or something?

I don't think Schiano will ever do crap as a head coach in the NFL.

All of these prima donna players are gonna find ways to snitch and moan. He better play it safe and not try to hammer his way more than the league allows.

Just got a feeling like this will end up accurate.

Come on guys, all the media was reporting about the Bucs last year is they needed a disciplinarian, now we have one and he's going to fail as well?

New coaches with new approaches always seem to have a strong immediate result. I would actually be surprised if Tampa Bay wins fewer then 9 games this year considering they won 10 in 2010. A team buying into a coach long term is the hard part. Holding a team after a couple losses and/or injuries is what seperates the Mike Smiths and Sean Paytons from the Romeo Crennells, Tony Sparanos and Todd Haleys

choosing a disciplinarian was correct because this group of players needed leadership last year and weren't getting it. choosing someone who has barely had a cup of coffee in the nfl as an assistant 15 years ago is the strange part.

head coach in college ball is a completely different job than head coach in the nfl and i think many of us just feel that the short time he had as an assistant in the nfl was not enough time to prepare to be an nfl head coach.

but, i guess there's a chance he could prove us all wrong. we'll see how he does. i tend to agree that his best chance at success is in year 1 because professional players will tire of being treated like kids fairly quickly.

Schiano did good at RU. I'm a NJ native so I am glad to see RU turned into something other than a joke but aside from 1 good year, he's been dog crap. His players love him, sure. He's fiery. But if he couldn't walk through an easy conference in the Big East he's going to get DESTROYED in the NFC South. I hope he does well though. I've met him a few times and he even bought be a beer. Good guy, awful HC. I think he'll be a good coordinator someday but not HC.

You're right Duke, recruiting 5* athletes to Rutgers is cake. His teams were loaded with talent year in and year out......

Freaking haters. Give the guy a freaking chance.

well, i'm not sure where Duke is going with his convo. i'm not questioning his abilities there. i'm questioning his ability to be an NFL h.c. with only 3 seasons in the league as a player or coach.

but, again, we'll see mush. if you are correct and schiano is the answer and is still there 4 years from now and has the bucs winning, then you can laugh at us all.

I don't know how he'll do longterm, but I think he'll be pretty decent. Poor guy got thrown into a monster division though, good luck trying to grab a straw when you've got New Orleans, Atlanta and an up and coming Panthers team in the same division as you.
