With the 61st overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the 49ers select Oregon RB LaMichael James. James had a decorated career at Oregon and started all but two games after redshirting in 2007. An invitee to the Heisman Trophy presentation the past two years, James has been the most electric and productive player on a very impressive offense. He was an ideal fit for the unique zone blocking scheme run by Chip Kelly and has shown many traits that are transferable to the NFL. James is a quick and decisive back who looks like his motive is to be productive each time the ball touches his hands. He can get to full speed quickly off the snap and doesn't hesitate when hitting the line of scrimmage. Source: NFL.com
I dont get this pick at all. Does this mean hunter is gone? They are the same type of back. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
I brought that question up before...there been talk of getting a RB to pair with Gore all off-season...I didn't understand it then. I don't think they have the confidence in Hunter that they once had...obviously.
i think a lot of people are questioning whether james can make it in the nfl. he is certainly tiny. we'll see how he turns out.
Hes an absolute home run hitter and brings something to the position that none of the others have, pure flat out track star speed. He's short, but he's still playing close to 200 pounds at 5'8", so Im not terribly worried about him in that regard. I dont think it means Hunter has anything to worry about, Gores only got a year, maybe two, left and I think they are looking to a Hunter/James combo as his replacement.
Harbaugh stacks up talent. They have Gore, Jacobs, Hunter, Dixon and now James. He will use them all. Same thing with WR (Moss, Crabtree, Manningham, Ginn and now Jenkins). Harbuagh is the man.
I think if anyone needs to be worried it's Ginn. He holds no value as a WR and was pretty mediocre on kick returns last year, so all he's really bringing to the table is punt returns. James is a very capable returner and has big upside in other areas as well so Ginn better start working hard if he wants to keep a roster spot.
that's a good point. the niners might have seen some value in james as a returner, which puts Ginn's future in jeopardy.
So what does everyone think of the 9ers picks. I'm kind of puzzled with some of there picks. At wr i was thinking Hill or a guard and 2nd round maybe Defense or a guard. But i was questioning Aldon Smith last year and he turned out to be a beast. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
