Count Morris Claiborne as the most surprised person there was when the Dallas Cowboys made a bold move up the draft board to select the LSU cornerback with the sixth overall pick. The Cowboys started out at No. 14 and according to Claiborne they are one team that never talked to him. They’re also a club that sunk $50 million in Brandon Carr at the outset of free agency. “I was shocked," Claiborne told NFL.com. "They didn't even talk to me. I know they sacrificed to come down to get me, but I feel like I'm worth it. I know my talents, I know what I'm able to do and feel like I can come in right away and get with the team, learn the system and compete." Source: National Football Post
I feel this was a great pick. This kid will work his butt off and do what he has to for the team. Not saying he is Revis or anything, but he will be a solid starter for many years. Great job Cowboys!!
I'm not totally on board with this yet. If you have multiple question marks on a team, can you afford to trade draft picks?
Negative post is negative.. come on man, gotta stay positive with this. I am excited about this pick. And I think a lot of people are as well. Our defense will be solid this year.
Even a team with question marks that makes this move gets better instantly. We have Jenkins we can work with and we still have 7 draft picks total.
Meh out problem last yr wasn't scoring or keeping Tony upright it was other teams scoring more that us Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Giants have shown how to win SBs. It's by rushing the QB. By not having a second round pick, IMO, the rest of the Cowboys draft picks have to be home runs because they have so many needs to address.
If I'm not mistaken, this draft lacks a lot of good pass rushers.. and those that excelled at it probably wouldn't make it to us in the second round.
Look up Rick Gosselin's article archive and read his column from yesterday, titled "Claiborne will help, but giving up pick is risky move." He explains how I feel about this move quite well.
Did you read his column? If not, let me take you back to the years 1985-1988. In those years, the Kansas City Chiefs had a defensive secondary of 4 Pro Bowlers, with CBs Albert Lewis and Kevin Ross and safeties Deron Cherry and Lloyd Burruss. There was just one little problem. They couldn't get to the QB. Their W-L record during those years? 24-38-1. Get my point?
We took a pass rusher in the third and one in the fourth. Crawford was considered a second round prospect some places
Indeed we do. But who else makes sacks for this team? Take a look at the Giants. They have 3 guys who go after the QB. That's why they have 2 big rings they wear on their hands. In this draft, IMHO, Jerry Jones wanted to make headlines instead of doing what was necessary to fix this team.
Come on dude. You have to realize that what Rob wants to do is, blitz from all over. With the new additions to the defensive backfield it allows him to blitz from all over without being burned on the back end. I think we are headed into the right direction with the draft and the FA signings.
In his column in today's DMN, Kevin Sherrington says Claiborne is a blue-chip talent. He also points out that the Steelers have chosen OL in their first two picks for the last three drafts. In his words, "winners generally build up front first."
yeah because all the blue chippers are gone by then. Do you think it would have been better to take an OG over a CB?
Claiborne helps us use Ryans exotic blitzes. With CBs that can play on an island, you now have a safety or ILB that you can effectivly blitz without compromising coverage. Crawford helps you in 4 man rush mode and as a 5 Tech should be able to rush inside or out. As for the line. We have our OTs. As far as keeping "Romo upright", most of his hits came from the Left edge, that will improve by putting Free back on the left. An OG in the first wouldn't have improved protection in the critical spots like the Decastro Cult thinks. Decasto helps you run much more the protects the QB. Plus, we draft THREE last, 2 of whom started. On top of that we added a highly respected OL coach. Let's let him work with the players we've added Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
