Now a free agent, we last heard from Donovan McNabb in April when he stated unequivocally that he was a future Hall of Famer. But if he gets his wish, we'll have to wait more than five years to find out if Hall of Fame voters agree with him. That's because the former second-overall pick in the 1999 draft still has designs on playing. "I sort of have some unfinished business," McNabb said during a Friday appearance on ESPN 1000 in Chicago. "I love the game, I have a passion for the game, and I look forward to continuing that on." To that end, McNabb said he's been keeping in shape and working on his fundamentals in case an NFL team comes calling. “I've been training hard and preparing myself out in San Diego working with George Whitfield, the obviously well-known quarterback guru, supposedly, for over the past month,†McNabb said via ESPN by way of PFT. “Just kind of refining the skills, working on the mechanics and getting back to a high level, an elite level. I'm just waiting for the opportunity to display that.†Source: CBS Sports
I understand his sentiment but I really think that he needs to just come home and call it quits. Still one of the best QB's in Eagles history and at one time I'd say a sure thing hall of famer. Then he went to Washington and it became debatable. Then he went to Minnesota and eliminated ANY chance of going into the pro football hall of fame. Just end it and retire, be an analyst or something somewhere and end it.
He's working on all the stuff that he refused to get better at while in Philly, Washington and Minnesota? Imagine if had he actually put in the time working on his mechanics during his playing days. Anyhow, no one will want him -- period. He's never going to be a starter and he proved to be a lousy teammate when he was not starting/benched so no one will want him as a backup either. It's over.
If he had retired an Eagle after 2009 I think that he would have been a for sure hall of famer. He did enough with this team and in the league that I think he would have definitely been enshrined in Canton. I think now however he's tarnished everything he did in Philly over a 8 year or so span and now I think there's no chance he gets in. It's unfortunate but it's the truth.
McNabb should have never been considered a HoFer. Never had a 4k passing season despite the league becoming pass friendly. And he only played a full season 4 times in his career. He has had a slightly above average career, that is not HoF.
Oh yeah, my bad. I forgot it was all about numbers in the HOF. Not leading your team to being the 2nd best team of the decade and doing so with absolute JACK CRAP on offense. My B.
Yeah, pretty sure a stellar defense lead that team. But what do I know. Question though, how many rings does McNabb have? How many NFC championships does he have? Oh yeah I forgot the handful the OVERRATED McNabb brought to the city of brotherly love. And Just FYI, Patriots, Steelers, and the Colts were all better in the decade. But yeah McNabb is a HoFer because his defense won despite of him and his selfish never my fault always someone else's fault average player.
your acting like the offense was crap during his run our offense was pretty damn good especially for what we had at WR
There was a point in time where McNabb could've been considered #3 in the league behind Brady and Manning. Put biases aside and look at what he did with nothing. When he finally got a legit WR he took the team to the Super Bowl. He doesn't deserve to be a Hall of Famer, when it's all said and done there are just more people that deserve it over him that will get in before him. But 5 NFC Championship appearances and 1 Super Bowl appearance is nothing to sneeze at, even if he never won a ring. But everything has been shattered over these last two years, if not in Washington, definitely in Minnesota
