Are NFL Locker Rooms Ready To Welcome Gay Players?

There are gay players in the NFL. Anonymous interviews, former players who have come out and mere statistics will tell you that's an ironclad truth. But the league has yet to see its first active, openly gay performer. Yet according to some prominent rookies and league veterans, NFL locker rooms could be more than ready to not only accept, but embrace homosexual teammates. Outsports conducted multiple interviews at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere events in Los Angeles recently and shed some light on the thoughts of some seemingly enlightened stars who wouldn't mind in the least if what Outsports calls "the last closet" were to open. "The gay community is just like everybody else, but they're treated differently," former Green Bay Packers RB Ahman Green, who has a gay brother and lesbian sister, told Outsports. "I am very open-minded. It is what it is. People are born that way. You can't control it. Just like you're white, I'm black. But a lot of people don't think my way. I wish they did, because then there wouldn't be guys who wanted to stay hidden."

Over/under on how many people get carded in this thread is 7.

Seriously though, in this day and age if you can't get over the fact that someone is gay then you have issues you should seek help. Showers, dressing, whatever, I couldn't give a flying heck if the dude next to me was a *insert word here* but then again I have an unusually small p**is so they wouldn't be cfreaking my junk out in the first place.

I am on the fence about this. I could care less who is gay and who isn't.. But I am not sure I would be comfortable showering with someone who is openly gay. Not saying they would be hitting on me or anything but I could see it being an awkward situation.

Kinda like asking girls to shower with guys.(unisex bathrooms) I am sure they would feel like every guy was starring whether they were or not.

I am curious to see what everyone else has to say.. Let's see if anyone is honest and speaks their opinion. lol

Sucks don't it K....I agree with Mush though, if anyone can't get over the fact someone is gay then by all means seek help. I also have no problem showering in a locker room if a chick was gay as long as she isn't hitting on me it's all good, take my shower and away I go...cya

NFL locker rooms are not ready. Nor are NHL locker rooms. NBA locker rooms. MLB locker rooms. Crap, just about any locker room for that matter.

They likely will never be ready.

    Look, but no touch?

Like others, I really could care less if someone is straight or gay. But if I was on a team with 50 other dudes and I knew two of them were gay? And everyone else knew they were gay? Yeah, there is going to be some serious awkwardness.

Exactly, unless everyone is getting private showers this is just creepy and destructive to team cohesiveness.

I can see it both ways. I feel like I would be uncomfortable at first and most people probably would be too.

But the biggest point in this is that there are already gay players in those locker rooms. By saying its not ok for them to talk about it, you're asking people to lie about who they are, which is wrong.

Yes, it probably makes people uncomfortable, maybe even for a long time, but unless there's a change made at some point (and there will be) there can't be the cultural adaptation that's necessary for people to be accepted for who they are.

Mush you heckhead, I almost spit soda on my phone from that first comment.
Anyway gays are picky too I think, so not everyone is beefcake to every gay. So no big deal.

If they produce on the field...I could care less. If the guy sucks (football talent-wise,) then I might question it...lol.

Seriously though...this day and age, who cares? Get over it and worry about yo-self...

I dont understand why it would make showers uncomfortable. Its not like the dude is just waiting for you to turn around so he can surprise rape you. He'd be doing the same thing, just getting the shower and day over with so he could go home, eat dinner and fall asleep.

Yeah walnuts but in the straight dudes mind he'd be thinking I wonder if is into me

Hell a straight guy would think the same if was taking a shower with some co eds, and the chicks would be thinking the same I wonder if he is into me

I could care less but we are human and mind wanders

I agree 100% Mush. you just gotta accept gay people as part of society now a days

I think we'd be surprised at the reaction of some players. Sounds like "everyone" assumes there would be a wicked backlash at a player being gay, but I'd be willing to bet that at least 90% of the players could care less...it would give them some extra "material" to use when hazing a teammate...
