Funny how this thread developed. I say it again (and agree with you Duke). Will Klinsmann will inprove your team? Sure, but Klinsmann isn't the savior and won't do miracles that makes you competive on international top level (where your soccer gilrs already are btw) within a few years
Johnson chose to play for the US. He would have eventually gotten on the German team. Chandler would have easily made the German team but he chose the US over Germany.
but the point your missing is the US ALREADY is competitive. Did you watch the last WC? Sure the US won't win the WC but expecting to advance to the round of 16 of the quarters is not unreasonable.
Top reason to love the USWNT: But yeah, the Men's team is getting better. I just want to see 4th place before I die.
I watched the WC. You won your group with a win over Algeria and ties with Slovenia and England. Great group! Algeria and Slovenia are anything, but close to a top team. England was a complete clusterheck that time. Than you lost to Ghana, not even close to a top team too. Is that competive to Spain, France, Brasil, Italy, Germany? And for the last time: Klinsmann is a step into the right direction, but nothing more. He's a player, not a coach or teacher And for the German-American players. Yes, they chose to play for the US all by themselfs. A nation, they had no real relationship with, bc they all were born here and lived all of their life here. A team, that contrary to Germany, didn't give them a chance to win a title for the next decade. Why, for the love of the USA? Look at Mesut Özil. He could chose between Turkey and Germany. He has more ties to Turkey than Jones and the others havs to the USA, bc of the huge Turkey population here. What team did he pick? Right, Germany and I'm sure if Turkey would be better than us, he would have picked the Turkey.
FWIW I'm an England fan not a US fan. Still getting that far in the competition was impressive. Not to mention the lack of officiating hurt the US chances in the game VS Ghana. agree to disagree. Those guys picked to play for the US for a reason and it wasn't because they were never going to play for the US.
I never even brought up Jones who sucks most matches any way. In fact, he doesn't even start for the US.
Actually, whenever Bradley brought him in he started. And I don't know if Jurgen has called him in yet. Clint Dempsey wasn't in a lot of games. Jermaine Jones is a hell of a player when he's healthy.
not true Duke. The only reason Jones starts was because Stu Holden was hurt. I've never been impressed with Jones but that's jmo. Bradley and Holden are the guys in CM.
We'll what happens against France and Albania! I'm REALLY hoping that Jurgs calls up the first team as a whole during this trip and start to build some momentum. But again, we all need to agree to disagree. I like Jones. He's great at laying in long passes but Stu Holden is our future. We have some talent in George John, Brek Shea, Stu Holden, Juan Agudelo, Teal Burnbury, Etc. I'm a LITTLE worried about who can replace Tim Howard but I have faith in our coaches. Having Chris Woods as our GK coach I think is pretty big but as far as players...meh.
Tim Howard should be fine for years to come. Like you said after that it's foggy but a guy I've heard good things about is Bill Hamid.
Timmy's 32. He's probably one got 1 World Cup honestly left in him. Bill Hamid isn't bad but...needs A LOT of work. I watched him against the Timbers tonight and while he had some nice stops he has A LOT of work to do.
How is Jürgen doing? Did he lead the US boys to wins over a team, worth to be called soccer team in a game that counts?
Pahahahaha! Holy crap. I still can't believe someone (forgotten who it would) on here said they are a contender for winning the WC.
