Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner has issued a statement regarding Jimmy Haslam's interest in investing in the AFC North franchise. It's unclear what portion of the team Haslam is looking to purchase, if he would be a minority investor or seeking majority ownership. No deal has been finalized, but it's obviously in the works. Even if it's a minority sale now, it could be setting the stage for future majority ownership from Haslam, a Tennessee businessman. “In connection with current rumors and press inquiries, I can report that I’ve been approached by Mr. Jimmy Haslam, who is interested in making an investment in the Cleveland Browns,†Lerner said in the statement. “We are currently in negotiations and both sides have agreed to keep that dialogue and its details private. Given that any transaction would require League approval, care has been taken so that this process will not be disruptive to the organization, in particular the football team, as it prepares for the upcoming season. Haslam is a minority owner in the Steelers I believe...he might want to give Big Ben a call. Seems like Ben has owned the Browns for a while now!
At least by ignoring Cleveland he hasn't done damage like he has there, they're bleeding money. One of the only smart things he's done to benefit the Browns is hire Holmgren and Heckert to take the team out of his hands.
I support new ownership for the Browns, Cleveland's fanbase deserves someone who actually gives a heck about them.
