ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that the Green Bay Packers are close to reaching an agreement with free agent RB Cedric Benson. Benson’s name previously surfaced as an option for the Packers, but the idea had yet to gain much traction before this. The Packers are obviously concerned about their running game now that James Starks is having a hard to being productive on any level. Alex Green figures to see some amount of playing time, but it’s fairly clear that they’ll give Benson a shot for to prove himself. Source: NFL Trade Rumors
Starks has been nothing but erratic/inconsistent. Pack fans should embrace this one. Huge upgrade if that OL does it's part.
Bensons nothing special, theres no reason he should be guaranteed a starting spot. He's an extremely slow grinder on the downside of his career. He might get a grand but its gonna be at 3 YPC. In fact theres no reason he SHOULD start unless Starks and Green completely crap the bed, both of those guys have a lot more to offer than Benson if they can put it together.
