The Ravens and the family of Art Modell will stage a silent tribute to team's former majority owner Saturday by placing his casket on the team's home field. Modell brought the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore in 1996 and remained the majority owner through 2003. Upon arriving in Baltimore, he instantly became beloved by the city and showed his appreciation by donating millions of dollars to local charities. The viewing will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Lombardi Trophy presented to Modell following the Ravens' Super Bowl win in 2001 will be placed by his casket. Source: Associated Press
Rumour has it they are setting up a giant image of Modell in the city centre for fans to pelt with garbage.
if true that's crazy ... wow but if you know the whole story of how this man hecked that city and fabase over and over you'd understand their angst. plus he was a biggot. he and the redskins owner (much earlier) were opposed to blacks coming into the nfl. funny how his tune changed after 1964.
He hecked Cleveland so yes, they can hate him all they want for that reason. As for the "bigot" thing, during that time he wasn't in the minority AT ALL for not wanting black players in the NFL. Luckily he did change his tune and didn't hold out on that. Screw the man for the Cleveland crap but don't talk crap because he was just like 85% of Americans during the 50s and crap.
ummmm, i will talk crap about his biggotry because, well, because he was a biggot. by your logic i shouldn't rip former alabama gov wallace for his biggotry either because he wasn't the only one that thought that way. also - you may want to do some research because he was in the minority when it came to the nfl. he didnt buy the browns until 1961 and blacks were playing in the league for years prior to that.
