Stephen Gostkowski hooked a 42-yard field goal in the final seconds, and the Cardinals escaped Gillette Stadium today with a 20-18 victory in the Pats’ home opener. The Cardinals had the Patriots on the ropes, but Brandon Spikes forced Ryan Williams to fumble the ball with 1:01 remaining, and Vince Wilfork recovered it at the Cardinals’ 30-yard line. The Pats were in position to pull off a miraculous victory, but Gostkowski couldn’t put a fifth field goal through the uprights. Tom Brady nearly rallied the Patriots back from a double-digit, fourth-quarter deficit, but the mistakes outweighed the magic. Not much to say other than the Cards' gift by Williams was returned. Kudo to the Cards' defense for throttling the Pats for 3 1/2 quarters. Screw these replacement refs.

He did just enough to get them the W. If he can play like this as the No.2, leave him there, even if he outperforms Skelton.
the cards defense is impressive thus far. a great defense will win some games, regardless of what the offense does. all of the sudden, the nfc west isn't looking like a cakewalk anymore. they went 4-0 yesterday against a group of unbeatens. not too bad.
Good call CaptainStubing. Cowboys, Patriots, Lions and Redskins all victims to the NFC West. Who would've thought?
Can someone explain to me how the Cards won this game? Dont really wanna go back and look at film. From what I can tell looks like tough D and the O did just enough. Not to mention a missed fg....
yep, i didn't even bother watching this one cuz it just didn't seem like much of a match-up so i'd like to hear from someone who watched it. i watched the highlights and the best i can tell is the cards played good D and the pats just didn't play very well all around.
Hope the Cardinals play that well next week against the Beagles, but they probably won't.:icon_frown:
Unlike many, many games of yesteryear, the Cards were famous for coming off a victory like they had yesterday then giving up 40+ point the following week...regardless of who they were playing. Unlike those all-too-familiar years, the Cards' defense is the real deal and can give them a chance to win if close in the 4th Q. Being realistic, playing at home probably won't be enough. The Eagles are 4th in team Defense and the Cards 30th in offense. The Eagles are also 1st in team offense and the Cards 13th in D. I don't think it's any mystery but the difference in the QB play should be the real difference maker. The stats say the Eagles easy, but like the game against the Pats, who knows?
With this game before the Giants game, who they hate, this could be a "Look Out" game, but I'm not holding my breath.
