Jay Cutler, Alex Smith - Who Is Better?!?

This doesnt mean anything in the grand scheme of things but on a 49ers message board(that up until this year has despised Alex Smith) there was a thread with a poll that asked which of these quarterbacks would you take

Mike Vick

Jay Cutler
Phillip Rivers
Other(this didnt include Brady Manning, other Manning, Rodgers)

There have been 124 votes on the poll every option has gotten at least 1 vote except Jay Cutler.

Doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things but it is interesting.

 

for the first pick of the draft he hasnt lived up to much

rg3 and luck will go down as better qbs than smith

 

nothing is written in stone so we see what happens in five years to judge those two

 

it's hard to compare these 2 qb's because they are very different. in reality, it's impossible to compare players on different teams, different systems, different circumstances, etc. but i suppose we can try.

cutler has been asked to do a lot more in his career than smith, so you've got to give him points for that.

i would say, in general, i believe both of them are mid-to lower-tier starting qb's in the league. they are very similar in the respect that they are both only as good as the teams around them and aren't really the types of qb's that make their receivers look better than they really are and don't really make their offenses look better than they really are.

if you want to call that a 'game manager' or 'facilitator' or whatever, then that's fine but guys like that rarely win championships mainly because they don't raise the level of play of their offense single-handedly and both of these QB's fall into that category.

 

this is between Cutler and Smith not the rest of those QB's...not interesting at all....Cutler's team is losing, trust me if the 49ers were 0-2 that poll would look a crapload different...

Jamarcus Russell has a better arm then both of them that doesnt make someone a better QB.

 

Alex Smith is 2-0 with 1 game winning drive against Jay Cutler teams as well =P(1 against Denver 1 against Da Bears)

This is where I think people that don't regularly watch him are wrong. He manages the game by design, but when it is on the line and he needs to make the play, even before last year, he is statistically one of the best.

 

the only way this thread becomes creditable is if alex smith hosts the Lombardy trophy at the end of the season (trust me see rodgers v cutler lol) until then i dont see why anyone and i mean anyone just like trent dilfer couldnt manage and play well for the niners and thats no disrespect its just that smith is their guy and any other guy could do what that organization asks the qb to do

talk about smith when hes the number one qb with the 32 ranked d and still has a winning record = not going to happen

Got to say that Alex Smith was beyond impressive for me today. He took what the defense gave him all day and they were giving it away like Lindsay Lohan. He was efficient and accurate all day.

 

Alex Smith is number 1 after 5 weeks in QBR. Has the highest QBR of any QB for a game this year.

At this point. I'd take Smith over Cutler. But who knows how quick that can change? I just think Cutler is too inconsistent. but, sometimes the same could be said about Smith.

 

Both QBS play 2nd fiddle to their Defenses.

 

Cutler is still better than Smith by a longshot.
