    The Eagles announced Tuesday that they have dismissed defensive coordinator Juan Castillo from his duties and have named secondary coach Todd Bowles as their new defensive coordinator.

    "I want to make it clear that I have nothing but the ultimate respect for Juan Castillo as a coach and as a person," Reid said in a statement released by the team. "He's one of the finest football coaches that I have ever worked with. He has served this organization extremely well for 18 years and letting him go was a difficult decision. I know he will continue to be a successful coach in this league and wish he and his family nothing but the best.

    "We're six games into the season and average isn't good enough. I know the potential of our team and insist on maximizing it."

    yep, the eagles defense has not been the major problem for them this season. they have actually been playing better.

    i could understand firing doug pederson and/or benching vick but castillo was not their major issue right now.

    No one thinks Castillo is at fault for the way this team is playing. If anything, he has helped make this team competitive game in and game out.

    I can't wait to hear his reasoning behind this.

    This will cure Vick's fumbling and the offense's inability to score.

    I wasn't the biggest supporter of the move to put Castillo in as DC when it happened, but I don't think he's done nearly as bad as people initially thought he would. As for being the scapegoat...lol...he was lower on that list than some...

    Meh. Figured he'd be gone during/after the season and Bowles would take over. I'm not mad at the move but I'd rather it of been benching Vick.

    Now that Castillo is gone, if the Eagles don't go far into the playoffs, do you get rid of Reid AND Vick?

    No playoffs=Reid gone. Vick stays but his future is up to the new HC.(most likely gone)

    Playoffs=Reid stays regardless.

    Vick is gone if they don't make the playoffs. His contract is too huge.

    is this what the eagles owners will say to reid at the end of the year if this season doesnt turn out to be successful?

    no playoffs = good bye to both. period.

    playoffs with early exit = the same

    nfccg or super bowl appearence = decision time

    Why would you? He isn't the problem. The problem was a crapty decision on defense to play prevent for a quarter and let a team creep back and win a game.

    <Sarcasm>

    Plenty of time for Reid to make more changes. They better be on the way.

    I don't know...I kinda feel like barring a miracle, he's out no matter if he makes the playoffs or not...

    fwiw

    the defense is ranked 12th in points allowed

    the offense is ranked 30th in points scored

    Why? Foles knows how to get rid of the ball before he gets blasted. Just like about every other quarterback in the league.

    Vick practically asks for the punishment every week. It's documented. It's proven. He holds the ball longer than any other quarterback in the league. He finds some nice chunks because of doing this, but he also gets hit and takes sacks because of it.

    The offense would be altered with either Edwards or Foles in there. I don't see the point in wasting time or games by putting Edwards in there. He won't win any more games than Foles, and its wasting precious real game snaps that Foles would gain a ton from.
