Eagles Fire Defensive Coordinator Juan Castillo, Promote Todd Bowles

I'd be curious to know how many of those points the D gave up were scored against them by teams starting on the Eagles side of the 50 due to a turnover by Vick.

 

I think if they make the playoffs, theyll be safe. but of they dont, of course. Bowles would likely be head coach.

 

kolb was quick at getting rid of the ball too and what happened to him when the real season began behind a horrible line ? i dont put so much stock into pre-season stats against back-ups (for the most part) running vanilla defenses.

IMO reid is stuck with vick and can go down with vick.

i'd think about it though if the last two games mean nothing to give the kid some time but not this early.

So sit him on the bench? There are no expectations for him. No pressure. He is the backup and if he sucks, he has two excuses: rookie and #2 on the depth chart.

This year's QB class is ripping it up this year. I want to see the kid make some plays, take some lumps, and learn some things.

 

this isn't 1999 when we had a new regime and doug pederson starting until mcnabb was ready. we have a lame duck HC who is gone at the end of the year unless they go to the super bowl and i do not want him and marty ruining him.

 

They are good with QBs though. I would definitely want Foles to start over Edwards as well.

reid is a different story but he is on his way out barring a miracle run to the big dance.

again, playing foles in the last two games ... yeah i'm ok with that. putting him out there now ? no.

 

I see nothing to gain by putting Edwards in now. We can't win squat with him, might as well let the kid take his lumps and develop.

 

In our division you don't have the Left Side to protect a QB VS Ware, JPP and Kerrigan. Putting Foles in with no Peters is going to ruin him

Edwards isn't great, but he doesnt turn the ball over. You can win the division with Edwards given your defense IMO

I don't believe facing pressure ruins a young QB. He'll take shots for sure, but not nearly as many as Vick does. Winning the division doesn't mean rod. We won't be good enough to go deep with Edwards.

 

I feel like not only has the Eagles defense been good built an identity with the press man i see them play with Nnmadi and DRC, tightening up the LB corp, etc. I dont see what firing Castillo at this point solves, unless they think Bowles can be a little more dynamic and build on the sack total.

 

Did Reid say as recently as last night that Castillo's job is safe?!?

 

This very well could have been a call from up above. Little puppet master action where Lurie wants Bowles in a larger role on the team to prep for the takeover at the end of the season.

Just throwing conspiracy theories out there.

either way i dont want to keep sidetracking the thread from the subject of reid making a smoke up our butt move by firing castillo.

i mean reid says the team has to be better than average which the defense was above. the offense was clearly below. 30th in points scored.

 

Play Vick against the Falcons. If he craps the bed and costs us the game again then bench him and put NICK FOLES in. Nothing gained from playing Edwards. Foles is the QB of the future on this squad barring some resurgence from Vick. And I'm not handing the reigns to Foles. Foles is very Bradyesque in his tendencies and a pretty damn good QB.

But the bigger picture is we're 3-3 in a weak butt NFL and the NFC East is very well within our grasp. I think letting Vick ruin the season the next 3-5 games and costing us games is the dumb play. Play for the win and if that means that Nick Foles is in there, then so be it. I don't see Foles as the move saying the season is over but something needs to happen.
