If Jerry Jones wanted to fire Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren would have “serious interest†in taking over that role.

That news was reported Sunday by CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora.

What does the Cowboys owner and general manager think of the idea?

Here is the response he gave on the team’s flagship radio station, 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM], before the start of Sunday’s game in Philadelphia.

“Of course, Mike Holmgren is a heck of a coach,†Jones said. “But the facts are that Jason Garrett gives us an outstanding chance to be what we want to be. So, there you have it. I wouldn’t comment one way or the other there with Mike.â€

Jones went on to say that he talked earlier in the day to Cowboys radio voice Brad Sham about the Holmgren report.

“I was interested in why he said he would like to be the coach,†Jones said. “And that was good. We are good friends, have a lot of respect for each other, served on the competition committee together for eight years. He’s very familiar with how we operate the Cowboys, and does have a high appreciation for our talent that we have on the team right now. All of that is a compliment. Thank you, Mike.â€

Surprised he didn't preface it with "first of all, I'm the guy."

If Holmgren couldn't fix the Browns, how could he fix the Cowboys? We all know what needs to be done, but it won't happen until he's six feet under.

Holmgrens a good coach but a bad GM. He needs to be somewhere theres a clear cut GM/personnel guy thats not him...not that Jerrys probably any better of a GM than he would be, but the roles are defined and wont change.
