Heard Michael Lombardi on a local radio station and he had this to say about the Eagles: 1. The Eagles owe Vick $3 million dollars, so he probably will not be back after this season. 2. The Eagles have some cap problems, so they're going to have to release some players. 3. Since Foles is a rookie QB, he doesn't think the Eagles will be able to get a big-name coach. Lombardi doesn't think one would be interested under those circumstances. Lombardi lives in Philly, so he ought to know.
They're 25 million under the salary cap. I normally wouldn't piggy back the obvious but it's REALLY easy to find those numbers. As for the whole not getting a big name because of Nick Foles, that's just absolutely goobered. This team has more potential weapons on offense than 3/4 of the league and has the personnel to be a top 5 team easy. They just need a coach that knows how and at the moment Andy Reid just doesn't care.
We were pressed right under the cap this year. Unless they frontloaded the crap out of a bunch of the contracts for the first year, we probably aren't in the best shape.
http://www.eaglescap.com/next.html $17 million over for 2013 right now. That can be fixed pretty easily by whacking Vick and Bell, and restructuring Nnamdi's deal if they want to keep him, but it still isn't great right now.
That's what I was talking about. I figured that since Lombardi used to work in the Philly front office, he ought to know what he's talking about.
Nnamdi is as good as gone, Vick is out and I doubt that Bell is here. At this point we're fine and we'll be fine in the offseason. The FO is good at one thing and that's keeping us under the cap.
