Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he didn't know if his team would finish 8-8, which brings up questions about coach Jason Garrett's future and what he needs to do to keep Jones from making franchise-changing decisions after the season.

Jones didn't want to answer that question, saying only that he expected to win and still does and there is no misunderstanding about that.

"I’m just not gonna talk about … When you say tangible success, we certainly plan on winning ballgames the rest of the season," Jones said. "We’ve got five more to go and I do expect to win games right here. We’re going to get ready and expect us to compete. Now, we’ll probably be playing a healthy Vick, which can give you some of the same problems that we dealt with here today. Yeah, I expect success. Now, I don’t have any implied or anything that I’ve said, ‘Success, a level of success, or else.’ I’m not going there and haven’t and haven’t gone there in my mind. I expected to come in here and win today. And I expected to win again and to win again. Under those circumstances, you don’t have to think about those things.''

Jason Garrett might as well start looking for another team cause how this team is playing right now they wont make the playoffs

I think Garretts fate is tied to wheather or not Payton gets a new contract before the season ends. Payton is who Jones wanted to take over for Parcells and lost him

Anyone think Jerry has a hard on for Gruden?

I just couldn't see Payton selecting to go there with Jerry so involved...

Jerry isn't as involved as people think. Garrett has made the personnel calls since he has been hired. Payton would too. Plus Payton and Jones have a good relationship, and Payton has been in the organization

Gruden is a hack. But I can see Jerry going for him.
But I think Payton is high on Jerrys list.

Was Gruden in play at that time?

Agree about Gruden being a hack...but could see Jones hiring him based on "name."

I think Payton would be the prime candidate on almost every team needing a coach. I just think he is smarter than getting into the "Jerry Jones Vortex" unless there were some sort of stipulations that allowed Payton certain authorities.

If Payton wants to have power here, forget it. He's not coming here. Jerry's not giving up any of his power.:icon_frown:

Jerry doesn't have the control people think, I dont really know why people still think that. Jerry is really just a mouthpiece at this point. The football decisions are made by Stephan Jones and Garrett

But Jerry IS the GM. And, he's not giving that position up to anyone, be it Gruden, Payton, or whomever.

A GM that makes very few actual personnel decisions. He is pretty much a GM in title only.

It's always funny to me how fans praise Stephan and slam Jerry, when Stephen fund the football operations

So the one thing that I want, Jerry's death, isn't really going to improve the team. Is that what you're telling me?

is this the oakland raiders 2.0 where everyone is just hoping for the owner to die so the team can improve?
