The Philadelphia Eagles will interview Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden on Monday. The team already has interviewed seven candidates since firing Andy Reid on Dec. 31, and has permission to speak to two other coordinators. Gruden, the younger brother of Jon Gruden, just finished his second season in Cincinnati. He previously served as an offensive assistant on his brother's staff in Tampa Bay from 2002-08. He also coached several years in the AFL, winning the Arena Bowl title twice. Source: Associated Press
Stop it. It's better to be patient and hire the right guy than to rush into a decision, especially with main targets still in the playoffs. Relax.
Maybe I'm dumb but can they not hire someone who's still in the playoffs still? I don't understand the big deal.
those assistants are under contract and teams typically won't even give permission to talk to them because they're still working.
I don't think there is any way that the next Eagles head coach isn't Mike McCoy. I think that Lurie would have announced it if it was an available head coach. Also heard some guy on a radio show here in Indy say they think Lovie will be the DC.
I'm pretty sure there's a rule that says teams cant prevent coaches from interviewing for head coaching positions.
that's correct. but i think while the team is still playing, the interviewing team has to receive permission from the team he is employed with to start talking to him.
I believe while they are playing in the playoffs up to a point teams can request permission to interview coaches for head coach and then it's cut off at maybe this week? A team can't stop a coach from interviewing for a head coach job, but they can refuse for a coordinator or other coaching job.
