The family of Junior Seau has sued the NFL, claiming the former linebacker's suicide was the result of brain disease caused by violent hits he sustained while playing football, the Associated Press reports.

The wrongful death lawsuit, filed Wednesday in California Superior Court in San Diego, blames the NFL for its "acts or omissions" that hid the dangers of repetitive blows to the head. It says Seau developed chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) from those hits, and accuses the NFL of deliberately ignoring and concealing evidence of the risks associated with traumatic brain injuries.

Seau died at age 43 of a self-inflicted gunshot in May. He was diagnosed with CTE, based on posthumous tests, earlier this month.

He wanted to play that many years hes as much to to blame as anyone. Others have been fine and retired.

Depends on the evidence (which I haven't seen btw). What did the league know and not recognize? What was hidden by the league to him and others? Makes a big difference

All these players act like the NFL hides from you the fact that you can get severe brain trauma from running into people at full speed. Jesus that's news to me.

Yep, at what point do the players take an active role in their injuries and say, enough is enough. Sure the money is hard to walk away from but I thought that was the point of a college education before the NFL.

His family says it's not about the money, however, it's ALWAYS about the money. If it wasn't then why not say they are suing and giving the money to research...Football is freaking violent, repeated blows to your head is not a good thing but you keep playing because the NFL says those blows won't hurt you in the long run??? yeah right
