There are six weeks to go until Giants wide receiver Victory Cruz becomes a restricted free agent.

On Thursday Cruz said he wasn't getting antsy about a new deal. Giants owner John Mara discussed the Cruz contract today telling Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger he hopes a deal can be worked out with Cruz but said "there's a limit." Asked if Cruz is asking for too much, Mara said "right now."

Mara said Cruz "is a high priority, but he's not our only priority." Mara said they would tender him if no deal struck.

yep, the giants have a lot of guys to re-sign and teams that have success sometimes have trouble keeping most of them.

and the giants need to be careful here. cruz's production already dropped off dramatically this season. this may be another miles austin situation where the team will be immediately regretting the contract if he was just a flash in the pan.

I would pay cruz hes a great player and deserves it. He still had 10tds so its not that big of a drop in production.

eh, cruz was not nearly as explosive in 2012. teams adjusted to his breakout 2011 season and really clamped down on his effectiveness down the field. sure, he caught some td's but most of those were in the short game, as were most of his receptions this year. good route runners with good hands that are mainly only effective in the short game are a dime a dozen and are not worth $10 mill/year.

cruz's 2012 season was very pedestrian. he put up some decent reception and td numbers but it was only because he got a ton of targets. there are MANY receivers in this league that run good routes and can catch passes in the short and intermediate game. no need to pay a guy like that $10 mill a season (which is supposedly what cruz is asking for).

a guy like that is probably worth about $5 or $6 mill a year and i guarantee that's what the giants are thinking too.

In Cruz's defense, Hakeem Nicks wasn't nearly the player he was either...when Hicks was even available to dress...

well, does that statement really 'defend' cruz making top WR money though? a top 5 or top 10 receiver in the league creates things on his own.

the way you said this, i can't tell if you support giving cruz $10 mill/yr or not.

No it doesn't, but that can contribute to his numbers being down.

Cruz is not the best wr in the nfc east anyway.dez bryant is the hardest wr to cover in the nfc,no matter how many guys you put on him,he always gets away even on teams with decent secondarys! you can put a corner and a fast safety on cruz and he won't or can't get away!

agreed with everything here except i think you meant to say dez is the hardest wr to cover in the nfc east because megatron is also in the nfc.

Talent wise Nicks is in his class, and he has put up numbers similar to what Dez did this year. Which is why I agree Nicks should be a higher priority. He is a true #1 WR.

I think Cruz could cut it as a #1 . But he won't be a guy that dominates ballgames. I think he would be a 70 for 1000 guy at best as a #1 , whereas Nicks could get you 90-100 for 1,500

Megatron is the best wr in the league, but he is not really hard to cover and if you look he catches quit slants or quick passes at the line and makes all his yards after the catch.ocassionally he'll catch a twenty or 30 yard out,but not often. Bryant is a nightmare to cover because he can run like a deer and it is hard to cover him when he takes off!

So you're saying you could cover Megatron? I'm sure that Megatron could smoke Dez Bryant in a footrace and plus Megatron isn't a headcase like I am convinced Dez Bryant is.

where did i say anywhere einstein that i could cover megatron? you should quit fighting cause obviously your have post concussion syndrome!
i'm just saying that most of megatron's receptions come off 5 to 10 yard slant plays and he gets more yacs off that than long 20 or 30 yard out plays.
i hate the cowboys and dex bryant, but i give credit where it is due,and most of the cbs i have seen talk about the hardest wr they have had to is dez bryant!
