Victor Cruz had a much better season, but Hakeem Nicks' contract is a bigger priority for the Giants, NFL sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Cruz, 26, enters free agency off two seasons in which he's averaged 84 catches, 1,314 yards and 9.5 touchdowns. Nicks, 25, has one year left on his rookie deal. Knee and foot Injuries limited him to 13 games in 2012, as he finished with 53 catches for 692 yards and three scores. Schefter reports the Giants are putting a bigger emphasis on signing Nicks to a long-term deal because they view him as a legitimate No. 1 receiver. Source: CBS Sports
When Nicks is healthy he's a much better all around wideout than Cruz, unfortunately thats a rare occurence it seems like.
I really want both of them to stay but I feel like we might lose one of them, Nicks is great but he was just riddled with injuries this year and that really limited him even when he did play but when he's healthy the guy has awesome hands and not really break away burner speed but enough to get some separation.
if cruz would accept what he's worth (about $6 mill/yr) and Nicks would accept what he is worth (about $8 mill when healthy), i would say that's pretty normal for most teams for their top 2 receivers. unfortunately, on the open market, their price will get inflated above their true worth so if either or both want to chase the money, they will leave.
yea, chase the money and have a decrease in production. It makes perfect sense having Nicks as their top priority, not only because hes #1 , but because hes a UFA. Cruz is an RFA, and we can tender him and keep him for another year while we work on a deal. And if he leaves as an RFA, we'll get a 1st round pick in advance. If Nicks walks as a UFA, we get nothing. I think we still need them both, and I love Cruz, but Eli has shown he can make almost anyone into a talented WR. We all loved Steve Smith after 2008. Granted Cruz is above and beyond Smith, im just saying, Jerry Reese is a complete genius, and I have all the faith in him
No crap, he wouldn't have a down year if he went somewhere like New England, he'd be going to Tom Brady who can make crapty wide outs look like super stars.
I think anywhere with a decent qb he would still do very well. Also not everyone that goes to new england does well
Yea im not comparing them im just showing a example of a receiver that dident do well in new england it is possible to suck and have brady as your qb. My point is i dont think cruz is getting figured out or even had a down year. I think he would go for 10 tds and a 1000 anywhere he goes and he deserves top money imo.
He deserves about 6-7m a year IMO the only receiver in the league right now that is worth 10m a year is Megatron.
