Former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu posted an unofficial 4.43 in his first attempt for the 40-yard dash on Tuesday at the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine. Mathieu, 5-9, 186 lbs., ran an unofficial 4.50 in his second attempt. Former SEC rival Dee Milliner of Alabama ran a blistering 4.31 in his first attempt, the top time for any defensive back on Tuesday. While his first 40-yard dash time was strong, his weak performance in the bench press -- just four reps at 225 lbs. -- raised questions for at least one NFL defensive coordinator. "It does concern me, because if he was working, obviously — I can bench four times, probably," Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said. Source: Sporting News
Smoke and mirrors, Bengals will be the first time to take a shot at the HoneyBadger. They bring in the "off the field/character issue" kids every year.
i doubt zimmer would throw up 225 4 times....lol clear smokescreen.....burficts bench numbers were pathetic last season for a MLB/second coming of ray lewis he is supposed to be
personally, i would not draft this guy ......... too much baggage. i'm sure he's a talent and will do some good things on the field his first couple of years until the success gets to him. as far as only 4 reps of 225, it absolutely SHOULD raise question marks about his drive, desire, commitment, and motivation. my boy is only 16 years old, weighs about 150, and he can rep 200 lbs 4 times. if mathieu truly has been working his butt off, he should have been able to do more.
