Cornerback Brandon Carr was the latest Cowboy player to restructure his contract, Todd Archer and Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas report. Carr's $14.3 million 2013 base salary is being converted to a base salary of $715,000 with the difference of $13.5 million being moved to a signing bonus to lower his cap figure. When the Carr move is enacted the savings count as $10.8 million. Source: The Redzone
jesus, he's still going to get paid $14.3 mill this season? i know a lot of people think this guy is one of the top 5 cb's in this league ............ i just don't agree and he is grossly overpaid.
According to Yahoo Sports, the Cowboys have reworked 5 contracts overall. Ware, Witten, Austin, Carr, and Cook.
Once Romo's new deal is done I imagine we will save a lot more. I just hope this isn't all false hope. Jerry better do good this year in the draft and FA.
No one really calls him a top. He doesn't really make that much, about 10 per which is the going rate for a top 20 CB nowadays Sent from my HTC Vivid
What you have to remember with the Cowboys defense last year is that after the injuries, stoping the opponent was litterally on Spencer and the CBs. We were down to third stringer all the along the DL and ILB ans and a one arm Ware. Any key stop came from Spencer, Carr or Claiborne Sent from my HTC Vivid
eh, i'm not just talking about last year but i think you and i are about on the same page ........... i would call Carr an average #1 corner in this league. probably top 20 is fair. but i have heard a lot of people in various situations call him a top 3 or top 5 cb, which he is not.
The good news is that the Cowboys are over $2 million under the salary cap. The bad news is that they're going to have to pay the piper at some point with all of the money they're pushing aside. They could get more money if they make OL Doug Free a post June 1 cut, which would free up $7 million against the salary cap which they could use to sign this year's draft picks.
i really dont worry about this since Jerry and stephen jones always find a way to make it wokr Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Haha, those are guys homering it up hardcore lol. He is VERY good in man when he can be physical at the line. But not nearly as effective in off coverage. Gonna be interesting to see what he does in Kiffins scheme where the CB has to jam, but also play in a zone alot of times. I don't know how much experience he has in zone, but he has always seemed like a player that can play well in zone. Either way, I think Claiborne becomes the #1CB by the end of the season Sent from my HTC Vivid
According to an article by Brandon George in today's Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys were about $21 million in the hole before they restructured the five contracts. The amount of the money in the five contracts was $23 million. 23-21 + = 2. They aren't done yet, though. They may restructure the deals of Ratliff, Scandrick, Livings, and Berneadeau. They can reduce their cap figure even more by signing Romo to a contract extension. Stay tuned.
