Gil Brandt of NFL.com attended the NFL Super Regional Combine at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas on Sunday and out of the more than 100 athletes who worked out on Sunday, to his eye, Lawrence Okoye of England stood out the most. Okoye reportedly turned down an offer to attend Oxford University to try out for the NFL. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.88 and 4.78 seconds, performed the short shuttle in 4.38 seconds, had a 10-foot-5 broad jump and a 35-inch vertical jump. His arms were measured to be 35-inches long. Brandt goes on to say that Okoye was unbelievably active and incredibly explosive in drills and of the guys there, he seemed to be the class of the defensive lineman. Source: NFL.com

Since Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan mentioned him on his segment this morning at 7:30 as someone the Cowboys have an interest in, I'm stepping in front of both of you for dibs.
um, am i the only one that thinks the chances of a guy who has never played football being able to play at this level right away are pretty slim? i still like the chances of a seasoned o-lineman with the mechanics, knowledge, and instincts over any guy off the street, no matter how athletic he is.
Hes a dlinemen, id argue that would be a bit easier to play for someone with limited experience, especially DE. Hes a world class athlete, its definitely possible. the biggest problem is i think he getting bad advice, he should definitely play a year of D-1 ball and try to make himself a top 3 round pick next year....give them some tape rather than just showing how big and fast year are. Margus Hunt is likely a first round pick, 2nd round at worst....hes the same level of athlete but he has some experience at SMU and even if he wasnt consistent he has had big games and put some good things on tape. Margus Hunt is 27, Okoye is 21...he should DEFINITELY go that route
The problem with these type of guys that have had success in other sports is they never really want to go thru the grind of the learning curve. A guy like this is probably gonna need a couple years to develop, during which he wont be getting paid much and he wont be playing much. They say they wanna give football a try but is he gonna be willing to humble himself that much?
